The oldest known wooden structure is 476,000 years old, found in Zambia, it suggests early humans built much earlier than thought.

In 2023, archaeologists uncovered the world's oldest known wooden structure at Kalambo Falls, Zambia. This structure, dating back at least 476,000 years, predates Homo sapiens and showcases early human craftsmanship. The discovery includes two interlocking logs with intentional notches, suggesting the use of advanced woodworking techniques previously unassociated with early hominins. This finding challenges existing perceptions about the technological capabilities of our ancestors and provides new insights into early human tool use and construction methods.

The Death Star seastar is the starfish with the most arms on Earth. It starts with five at birth and can grow up to 50 or 60. It lives in the depths of the Arctic Ocean and is cannibalistic

Another wild and interesting fact is that its arms have small structures called "bear traps." Other starfish have them too, but none are as sharp and strong as those of the Death Star seastar. It uses these "hands" to hunt.

Underwater Photographer of the Year 2025, Alvaro Herrero’s “Radiant Bond,” captures a tender moment between a mother humpback whale and her calf in French Polynesia. The calf, learning to breathe, rises alongside its mother in soft morning light. (@mekanphotography)

Herrero captured the special relationship between a mother humpback whale and her newborn calf in French Polynesia. ‘For me, this photo really shows a mother’s love and communicates the beauty and fragility of life in our ocean. The mother is accompanying her calf to the surface, because the baby is still so small and clumsy. The calf is releasing a few bubbles showing it is still learning to hold its breath properly.’

However, in 2017, no family members were willing to take over the business. Keiunkan’s general manager, Kenjiro Kawano, was selected as the new president. Reinforced concrete disintegrated by dog pee over the years

Concrete is alkaline by default so it shields rebarring from corrosion. When anything acidic comes in contact with concrete, dog urine in this case, it neutralizes concretes alkalinity and once this neutral pH concrete reaches rebarring, the steel starts to corrode. Rusting steel increases in volume, and that leads to concrete cracking.

It's called The carbonation effect. Most common causes are carbon dioxide in the air and salt, either in sea air or on roads in ice prevention.

A narwhal's "horn" isn't actually a horn but an elongated tooth that protrudes from its front lip, growing in a spiral pattern. Some narwhals even have two, though it's rare!
