Gaetz was sick of McCarthy working with the Democrats and not focusing on things like reducing debt and lowering the role of the federal government, so he worked with the Democrats to get rid of McCarthy.

Now, someone else needs to get elected. The Speaker pro temp is the Speaker in the meantime and has sent the House home for the week. The vote for the new Speaker will begin next week. McCarthy getting voted in took 15 rounds of voting, so... The House won't be doing shit for a while.
