This feels like the perfect fight. There are so many unknowns, so many variables. There are two clear paths to victory for both men, and we don't know who is going to be able to implement their game plan and how it's going to go down, and that's exciting.

I did some brainstorming last night thinking about how I think this fight is going to go and came to the conclusion that many of us have: this is a pick 'em. The oddsmakers have their job cut out for them. There are so many ways this fight could play out.

For me, it is going to be Eddie's pressure vs Conor's counters. I think more often than not, great counter punching beats pressure in boxing, but when you add in the variable of wrestling, the pressure game becomes truly formidable. How Eddie implements the pressure is going to be key.

He has to utilize intelligent pressure and footwork. Footwork, oddly enough, is one of the biggest keys to victory for him. He needs to cut angles, he needs to feint, and he needs to cut off the cage and walk him to the fence. If he does that, he is going to be a huge, huge problem for Conor.

If he takes the Daniel Cormier/Cain Velasquez approach and pushes forward relentlessly, he is going to get tagged and hurt. This, to me, is what made Anderson Silva, a revered counter striker himself, so dangerous on the feet for DC. But Anderson is a little older, and DC's wrestling is on such a level that he was able to walk through the storm and just barrel over him. There is a possibility that Eddie might be able to do that, but it is playing with fire. That left hand is lethal.

Also, if Eddie decides not to be just a wrestle-boxer and implements his kicking game, this could get really interesting. He has a solid right round kick when he wants to use it. Thrown to the head this can shut down Conor's left by keeping it glued to his head for defense. Thrown to the body it can sap Conor's stamina. Thrown to the legs is tricky because of the opposite stances, but if he can make it work Conor's wide stance makes him susceptible to absorb damage. And Conor has shown that when he is implementing his crazy, wild kicking game (which is a big question in itself for this fight) that he can be swept and caught off balance (Siver fight.)

I went ahead and did a breakdown exploring the contrasting styles of each fighter and how they match up. If you are bored and have some time before the event, check it out!

This is a toss up, for sure. I'm not quite an expert, soon i will be, but this has to be one of the first times I have no clear pick.....guessing Alvarez

Well, I'm definitely no expert, just a guy with an obsession for combat sports that loves looking at things like this really, really closely. This fight is...so amazing for so many reasons. It is that classic striker vs grappler feel, but at the same time you know that this is just a way too simplistic view of each fighter's toolkits. McGregor showed off much improved takedown defense against the much larger Nate Diaz up against the fence, but at the same time you've got to admit that he's no Eddie Alvarez when it comes to the wrestling department. At the same time, a lot of people are overlooking Eddie's striking prowess -- the man definitely has the power to hurt Conor if he connects. But conventional wisdom suggests that the more time he plays this game the more time for Conor to catch him.

Such a crazy fight. I'm looking forward to this one so much!

That would be nuts!! Could happen if Conor gets overzealous and allows Eddie to cut an angle while he is throwing that left; you could see that right hook by Eddie again in that case. Conor has proved to be hittable.

If Conor gets tired, of course, that's a whole different story. Though, I think some people might be overplaying Eddie's cardio and underplaying his pure grit and toughness/heart.

Great assessment. Judging by Eddies past fights with strikers namely Pettis, I feel he will work a similar game plan. Conor also has a real problem keeping his hands low and Eddie does have some thunder. Eddie on the other hand is acting unusually cocky which is not good if he takes that to the cage. He also gets tagged and can be rocked and Conor's left hand is cemetery. I do feel Eddie is the overall better fighter and isn't intimidated at all by Conor which is huge. Conor on the other hand is not mentally in the same place as he was for the Diaz and Aldo fight. I'm not sure why I feel this but I do. Something about him is off.

I have Eddie by TKO in round 3 or 4 or Conor by KO/tko round 1 or 2

Yeah I agree with the last statement, Eddie was tired after the Pettis fight, and he is extremely tough. I think Conor's power carry over to LW, but there are gonna be some LW's that can take his punches and keep moving forward. I think Eddie's boxing is underrated, and doesn't overcommit. I think the dart that he does where he throws a punch and fades a way will give Conor trouble too. I think he will do that a lot, and when conor is done with his punch, come back and nail him. I think in the clinch and on the mat Eddie gives Conor problems too. Eddie knows how to deal with ring cutters so it should be interesting.

All I know is if you hit eddie he gets pissed and nasty.

Conner better finish the job if he gets him hurt because Alvarez grows stronger if you draw first blood

I've been using that term way before he made it popular......I'm from New Jersey and I believe he is also....never even knew he existed when I was using the word.

Eddie seems to be really bent out of shape about Conor's comments regarding his wife and kids. This could fire him up to make this a nasty fight.

If Eddie makes it out of the first round... yes he is prone to getting hit, but also recovers quickly.....then I think he stops Conor in the 3rd or 4th....Eddie should be able to corner him against the cage and land some vicious buddy shots to and already tierd Conor.

Exciting fight... I'm looking forward to it.

Eddie's got that dog in him. If Conor can't finish it in the first, I see Eddie making it a dog fight and eventually knocking McGregor out. If McGregor catches him early (very possible), then night night Alvarez.
