  • only 80 minutes long. it goes fast
  • its not a "who-dun-it," which makes sense considering the risk of being sued by the Ramsey family
  • i enjoyed it. but then again, my views on who killed jonbenet are not shared by many. so the larger reception may not be as kind
  • no matter, which which you have going into it, i suspect that you will experience confirmation bias
  • the structure was unique. apparently, one other documentary was done this way in 2015. i forget the title. i was three words iirc, "killing kris ****" or something like that. but if you didnt see that one, the structure of "casting jonbenet" is going to surprise you
  • the final scene was artistic

I'll check this out, is it already on netflix? the whole thing is interesting, many think it was a cover up by the rents for the brother, but it's really hard to gage, the brother, from his recent interview and the one from after the tragedy, it seems like he suffers from some kind of dissociation disorder or similar.

One thing i can't get my head around is the note left by the perpetrators, it's just so odd.

Her brother killed her.
Bold accusation. I don't blame u. I often lean that way. But it's a bold to accuse someone of murder :)

Bold not hold. Wasn't telling u to hold ur accusation. Effingham autocor rectify (ugh. Case in point. "Effing autocorrect")

Whoa. I felt a little out of line even messing around and calling it a bold accusation. Bc most of the time, I think her brother did it, too...

But Thats a pretty awesome correction. Says a lot about ur character in a good way to be able to take the time to reassess ur verbage, regardless of the topic/issue

Not sure I would genuinely reassess my own verbage, let alone adjust it. I'm too much of a defensive, stubborn Sally probably. I'd bet many people are

People like myself should learn from u. Bravo, sir.

I think it says just as much, if not more about how you were able to communicate your message, which encouraged me to rethink how I had written that.

I think it was an intruder.
I thought it wss her brother until this netflix doc. I always wanted to think intruder but the brothers interview was shady

This doc wasn't a whodunit, but it reminded me that little kids are just awkward. So I no longer look at burks interview as proof.

Also, they had a hard time busting the watermelon with the flashlight. Whereas the cbs documentary made it seem so easy for a kid to crack a fake skull with th flashligjt

Did u watch casting jonbenet yet?

One of the actors saw my video ad commented on it :)

No haven't watched it, yet.

And the garrote, could he have made that? Or how would he know about those?
The two spots that they said may have came from train track. Really? Well, I think it would be hard to make two perfectly round bruises the exact size of ends, don't you? I mean if you hit her with it straight on, you would think with force it would glance off one way or another. Maybe even tear the skin. I think it was taser marks.
And even if mom and dad are covering for him.....going so far as to rape her with an object?
And, of course, the unknown DNA in her panties.

.

Was the model used that of an adult or child's skull?
In the cbs documentary? I dunno. A skull, probably kid sized. But no indication of what it wss made out of

In the new doc, which is very very light on attempting to prove or dis prove any theory, it had kids try to smash a watermellon. And it just made me realize how weak kids are.

Burke may have been able to do it. Or he may not have. But I no longer believe it's easy to create the damage as the cbs documentary made it out to be

Thanks for the suggestion OP, going to watch this today
I was looking for a good doc last night and turned on An Inside Secret, kinda wished I read your post earlier

I don't know as much about the case as a lot of people, but the parents have always seemed shady to me and I've always suspected some sort of abuse was going on, something bad happened where she died and they covered it up
It just seems the mostly likely
Definitely openminded on this one big time though

this might not be your best bet to watch first. its not a "whodunit" type documentary. its kinda artsy

a couple months ahead of this release, i did a video describing 6 other documentaries. its 18min long, so its probably not worth your time.

but heres the "video description" of that video. check out links at the bottom for the 6 other documentaries

In December of 1996, overnight between Christmas and Boxing day, JonBenet Ramsey, a 6 year old girl, was murdered in her home in Boulder, Colorado. December marked the 20th year since her death, and the case is still unsolved.

Was it her Mother, Brother, or an Intruder?

In this video, I frame the investigation process and then comment on 6 of the documentaries that have come out over the years.

The biggest takeaway for myself is that I realized I am very gullible. I realized that I am similar to many others in that I am prone to jump to a conclusion based off of incomplete evidence. But I hope to change that tendency in myself.

“In court, the presumption of innocence prevails. But in public opinion, the presumption of guilt is stronger.”

Side Note: I can understand why people have passion for whatever view they have. We are talking about the death of an innocent little girl. So i think it's natural for us to want to point a finger. I sure felt that way at first... but I think I have finally accepted the fact that we don't have enough information... and we will probably never know who killed JonBenet Ramsey :-/

A&E Documentary (2000): JonBenet Investigation Part 1
TruTV's Haunting Evidence: Haunting Evidence Jon Benet Ramsey
CBS Documentary (2016): The Case of: JonBenét Ramsey - CBS.com
University of Colorado Documentary: FULL DOCUMENTARY: JonBenet Ramsey Murder - Video Dailymotion
ABC 20/20 Report (2016): 20/20: 12/16/16: The JonBenet Ramsey Case Watch Full Episode | 12/16/2016
A&E Documentary (2016): https://goo.gl/FsryhT

and if you're truly bored, here's my analysis of them. but to be honest, i would say watch them all for different angles

Ya, I've watched the CBS doc you mentioned and know more than i guess I let on
By saying I don't know as much as alot of people, I meant, I've seen entire sections of message boards dedicated to this case

I remember actually doing a bit of research into it when I was younger, most of which I can't remember at all now lol
See if this brings anything back :)

Waiting for my daughter to go to bed in about 10 minutes to turn it on

Good doc man, you're right, not the best film for people with little to no knowledge of the actual interviews and such
I just love the way it was presented, the only other doc I can think of that kind of did the same style was Louis Theroux' Scientology film
If I could make 1 change to your OP, it'd be the last line.
the final scene was fantastic

no doubt. glad u liked it!

supposedly "kate plays kristine" is done in a similar way (audition film used as the main footage). i couldnt find the source that said that, but i was searching of "kris" with a "k" so im pretty sure kate is... oh shit. kate plays KRIStine. yeah thats the one.

i didnt find the source that said "kate plays kristine" did it first, but i just found this which suggests that maybe these other 2 do something similar as well in case you're bored. never seen any of them tho

"some moviegoers expect documentaries to deliver straight, unadulterated facts. But that’s not what viewers get from acclaimed documentarians such as Green, Joshua Oppenheimer (“The Act of Killing”), Sarah Polley (“Stories We Tell”) and Robert Greene (“Kate Plays Christine”), who add dashes of performance to their versions of reality. The act of killing is legit man
I'll check the others out but make sure you watch that one
Be warned it is a very depressing and eye opening
I really don't want to say anything about It, just don't go in expecting something happy or even upbeat

I watch mostly docs and horror movies (when I get time away from family and video games)
Dear Zachary is one of the best docs I've seen, I'm getting sad just thinking about it
I'll check the others out

Zachary just keeps getting worse the longer you watch. When the dude finally snapped and yelled about this is all because of that fucking bitch I was damn near crying. Those parents had more self restraint than I will ever have.

There's an afterward to the original ending now that shows what happened in the years following the doc. It leaves off in a much better place.

Haven't followed the case since it happened, but I recall thinking the parents were shady as hell. I recall a lot of hubbub because the father found the body and covered it with a blanket that had pet dander on it, and messed up the crime scene.
Didn't even know a brother existed.
