There are a many interesting aspects here and valid points in this entire discussion. Reading your posts regarding fighters becoming employees, if that were to happen couldn't the UFC (now being an employer) say the "employed fighters" can ONLY work for the UFC?
Yep, non-competes also - there are a untold ways becoming an employee can negatively impact a fighter as much as help, I am not aware of any scenario in any sport in which an athlete is an 'employee' that does not have their daily schedule ('in season') dictated to them...

camp/season would be the question...

In the full employee team sports model even Lebron James has an employment contract that requires him to be at ___ at ____ HUNDREDS of times a year - in the combat sports model of indy contractors someone like Canelo fighting as an IC of Golden Boy probably has <10 (?) mandatory 'be here at this time' events per fight...

Something definatley NEEDS to happen regarding Fighter Pay. This being pointed soley at the UFC and not MMA doesn't seem right. Bellator and the WSOF are even worse as far as paying entry level fighters. A couple of cards back I remember seeing the Bellator Prelim posted Pay and it ranged from 1k show- 2k win to 1.5K show - 3k win
A cynic would suggest these lawyers don't care about those guys because they can not make any money off them.

According to their press release this is UFC specific
Then i think it will have a harder time making it, Even tho the UFC is the largest MMA promotion, you cant just make a association for the UFC, I think it would have better backing to have all the organizations involved, the Ali act is not specific to the UFC so a fighter union cannot be as well.

These people did, and as far as I am aware the lawyer who made the MMAFA has only ever made UFC facing arguments/organizing attempt.

The fighters need/deserve more and they should demand it...

...but these shyster lawyers are transparent, those points do not conflict.

I am just taking their own press release at face value, it repeatedly and exclusively referenced the UFC, it would have been very very simple to replace the term 'UFC' with 'Professional MMA organizations' if they wanted to.

i agree but as of right now the UFC is the one that seems to be the most corrupt, well they are up there with the WSOF but, the PFA wont work without all organizations, and Im sure they know that, maybe this is just a PR move. who knows.

Good convo...

The UFC is the only one that is highly profitable, its base transparent that this is why they are being singled out by this group of lawyers...

..that is extremely obvious to me (and also separate from the belief that this sort of thing needs to happen on some level)

When the beginnings of Automotive Union started and they had of said "we're going to unionize Ford workers". Would have made it impossible to justify when GM, Chrylser, AMC and the other smaller auto workers out there not benefitting just because they didn't work for the most profitable auto company of the time. I'd like to know why these people are taking a sudden interest in MMA (oops the UFC)? Sounds more about hearing there was a 4billion company just sold and getting a chance to get some of it than truly wanting to help the fighters. Hope that isn't the case but this just happening after all the publicity of "4 BILLION DOLLAR SALE" , only talking of unionizing the UFC and no other MMA companies fighters and having NO current or past MMA fighters in their group or behind them when they first appeared.

Bellator has had it's share of questionable situations in the last while. The law suite from the ex-employee had some scary accusations in it. The fights between Kimbo and Dada, Shamrock vs Gracie being in the one state with the least ramifications for PEDS and three fighters get popped. Should some of them been even given a Lic to fight?. Yes this may be speculated "corruption" but then again isn't the corruption you speak of about the UFC and WSOF also speculated? Pointing this out because it's the fight business and all of them are as bad as one another.
