You want to protect yourself slide 5 yards earlier, Trevor was going full speed and tried to slide at the first down line. Defense is closing at full speed, we both know how much time you have to react. Plus we have QBs doing fake slides(Allen) and fake going out of bounds (mahomes).
I'm not into letting a QB become a runner past the line and then deciding he wants protection when the Defense closes. That is against the spirit of the game and the competition.

Giving yourself up running full speed is some chicken shit and doesn't even make sense, give yourself up well before the collision point and then you can be protected. I bet Trevor wishes he slid much earlier. Keep the Refs out of the equation.

We both played and we both know how fast that happens at the NFL level.
Lots of QBs slide earlier than Trevor did on that play and they do it for a reason.
Many NFL players on offense and defense don't agree with that type of QB protection call, and it is about QBs. Show me the last time a non QB got a call like that when giving themself up.

Yes, I'm aware of his stats this season. He averages 10 or so per year and some are really poor reads.
He had one really dumb pick this year vs Denver in LA.
