No More UFC PPV's

Not A Lurker
Hopefully these ppv cards don't get even worse now. They are crap now since ESPN pays the UFC the dollar amount of a 5 million ppv up front even if it does 25k buys. Now that they've already got the money they are about to get even worse! Atleast it's the death of the outdated ppv model though!

What reason will the UFC now have to build any individual fighter into a star?

Will all fighters fight for a flat rate?

How is this deal helping the current fighters pay day or going to motivate new aspiring talent ?

Ratings. Higher ratings tend to equal better deals. While there isn't a lot of information about this deal, the people signing it aren't dumb.

Why? I mean some fighters do or have. Not everyone wants a win bonus over guaranteed money. I don't see why this deal would affect that. A draw will make more money either way.

Why would moving from one network to another help or hurt the fighters? Exposure is exposure. If people want to watch UFC fights, they'll either buy the network subscription or steal it just like they did before.

Very similar to how boxers have gotten paid I assume
The fighters bonuses gave a little more incentive to swing instead of riding out a round/fight or pulling a ken shamrock vs royce gracie
We are a long way from Nov of 1993 and we’ve seen a lot of changes with the ufc over the years
I truly hope the deal is better for the fans and fighters
Boxing lost a LOT over the years it would suck to see more of the same for the UFC

I'm pretty stoked about this. The PPV model has long been outdated, and paying a small fraction of that for all of the events, plus a lot of solid movie options is fine by me as long as the live streaming is up to par. I just cancelled my Paramount subscription two months ago, but I'll have no problem resubscribing now. I think this is tremendous value, and it's about fucking time.

I pay for DAZN so I can have access to all of the NFL games in Canada. Those cunts charge too much, and I don't use it for much other than football. I can easily pause the account right after the Superbowl and activate it in August as I just did last weekend. Americans don't get the NFL on DAZN, but in Canada, it's great to have full access.

I think another bonus to having the UFC on paramount will be that you can start the card late if you have something else to do on Saturday night, unlike illegal streams where you have to be ready to watch it live. I've fucked up many a sunny Saturday afternoon to be inside watching those Goddam Saudi Arabia events that start in the AM.

Personally, I think this is the best news the UFC has shared in years.

I never watch live events, I HAVE to be able to fast forward through commercials and bs. When I used to watch the NFL a lot, id start watching the games 2 hours after it started, and if I did it right id catch up to live somewhere in the 4th quarter

My achilles' heel is the live betting. With the fights I almost always prefer to watch them live so that I can gamble on the fly. Drink a few beers and make some stupid bets. Chase the money as I lose it with even more stupid bets, while texting back and forth witha few buddies, and my kid who is on the other side of the province about the fights.

Gone are the days of everybody getting together for ppvs, but with the betting and texting, it's still an engaging social experience, even from the cozy confines of my own recroom. However, the option to watch the fights on delay is a huge bonus for those circumstances that require it. I never had that option while illegally streaming the fights.

I am not a fan of online betting, at all, but the rest is fun as shit!
Its still fun to watch live on my couch while bullshitting with old friends and former OGers, feels like the old days.
I like making small friendly bets amongst friends, nothing thats gonna hurt anyone. Always a good time.

Revenue consistency is very helpful when signing deals with fighters because the UFC feels less risk/volatility and will be more apt to sign a lucrative deal with a fighter they value as someone who can help them leverage a bigger deal in 7 years. There are enty of issues with having a cap on event revs but all the big sports have thrived on long-term, big tv deals (even PRIDE back in the day) to fuel performers pay increases...
