So I've avoided chiming in on this topic mostly.
I've got some REAL misgivings about the way the UG is run and moderated, but focusing only on the crashes...

They built their site a long time ago on a pretty shitty software foundation. Cold fusion is crap but it's easy to build if you are new to the topic. For fucks sake, MySpace was built on it. They have a LOT OF surge traffic. that's really tough to predict.
So I get it. And I dont want to be prideful. Our site was built by me tossing some cash onto a shared host and then Wild and I just brainstorming through text messages. We the put the rest together on a shoestring with the amazing help of the members that first joined.

I'm simultaneously amazed, humbled, and fearful of our own start. What if we have major bugs? What if we get hacked? What if we got popular? We aren't going to do everything right and Wild and I are just two guys that both work two jobs each outside of running this site.
So I'm reaalllyyy empathetic to the UG plight from a point of technical origins...

And that's about where it stops. Because for fucks sake. If you don't know how to do something, but you're flooded in cash, you'd hire some smart motherfuckers that could fix it. And that pisses me off in the end. They COULD fix it. But they don't prioritize because it ONLY happens during events....when everyone wants to talk to each other.
I guess my point is I don't comment often on this because I dont want to jinx things or act like its so easy. But goddamit, I should only be so lucky to have the "problems" with cash flow and site traffic that they are dealing with.
Then shoemoney came along and told those turkeys how to fix the site for free.

His reward? Being ignored and posting a thread about being ignored then Kirik does damage control and gives him a red name. Shit is lol's

I don't know what's more embarrassing though. Kirik offering him a red name as compensation for HOURS of his and his teams time...or Shoemoney coming back in the thread and thanking him for it. That's been the problem for years over there. Kirik offers some half ass apology any time there's a problem, and people "thank you Kirik....it's ok...you're a good man...we forgive you...take our $30...we'll keep coming back...UG for life". The owners take advantage of the customers, because the customers keep coming back out of loyalty or whatever the reasoning may be.

I could understand having a fan made site go down. But having a paid site go down like clock work is inexcusable.
