Fuck that scum bag.
You cant be mad at the lawyers, its just a job and its the law they have to be represented. Would you rather he have a attorneyq so incompetent that he gets off on a technicality? While this crime is awful its not the worst case for a lawyer to defend. Imagine being the guy tasked with defending a serial child molester that just wont admit what he did.

He's HAPA, not that it matters.

This has been extensively covered by black media outlets and local Oklahoma news while it's been going on, but wasn't really picked up by mainstream media. To my mind, this has to do not just with the fact that his victims were black women, but that they were poor and in some cases drug addicted.

Sexual misconduct is often poorly tracked among LEOs, and it's certainly underreported, but it's real.

AP: Hundreds of officers lose licenses over sex misconduct

Props to the Oklahoma City police chief for pursuing this case aggressively even though it was one of his own.

It wasnt picked up by the national media because the dude didnt pass the eye test. Literally. Theres no way they could get away with labeling him white like they did George Zimmerman, who also wasnt white. It just doesnt fit the script of out of control white folks rampaging through the streets raping and looting and generally making everyone else's life a miserable hell. Asian man commits a crime...bleh who cares.

But its good that he was caught because society doesnt need people like him in positions of power where they use it to tske advantage of others.

Just because they're poor and drug addicted, doesn't mean they deserve to be raped.

Exactly my point. People on the margins are easy to exploit and people with authority get away with abusing them on the regular. This kind of story is less sexy for mainstream media to cover because of who the victims were. Glad this one got caught.

The only reason it wasnt widely reported is because the perpetrator isnt white. If it was a white man who raped 8 black women it would have been front page news and covered by every news outlet in the country. Not to mention him being a cop and someone of authority.

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would have been in Oklahoma organizing marches and protests and the city would have been burned to the ground by rioters before they even held a trial.

I think the reason it wasn't widely reported is because he's a cop. His buddies have been covering him for years, no doubt. How many times do you think he bragged about wanting to get a "freebie" (coercion and rape) from one of the prostitutes or even bragged about getting one? More than a few times, I'd say. Cops are all about the thin blue line; it them vs. everyone else.

I've seen first-hand how cops will cover up an illegal activity being committed by one of their "brothers". FRAT warning!

I was at a boat club / beach party several years ago. There was a huge bonfire and a picnic table near it. Sitting on the picnic table was a civilian who was passed out. Some people wanted to wake him up and move the picnic table back from the fire. A group of hammered off-duty cops (who were members of the club too) were loudly saying how they should "run the guy in" for public drunkeness. A few of them were really aggressive (imagine that!) and even wanted to kick over the table into the fire and then run him in!

Cooler (civilian) heads prevailed and the cops left the guy alone. Soon after, one of the cops decides to drive home. He's clearly drunk and probably the most intoxicated of the group (besides passed-out picnic table guy). Well, his "brothers in blue" decided to call one of their friends who was on duty nearby and to let him know that "Charlie is on his way home" and to "make sure he doesn't run into any trouble".

These cops knew their buddy was breaking the law and they helped him do it, while also threatening to hurt a guy who wasn't hurting anybody!

Incidentally passed-out picnic table guy spent the night in his boat, which was docked, like most everybody else did there.

@Cerebus: You may have a point with the race issue, but I really think the problem lies with how cops view themselves and others. My points focused on the coverup prior to the story ever seeing the light of day. I'd also bet that the local new media were asked/told by local police union or fraternal order to not hype the story. The whole quote, "justice was served" serves to deflect criticism of the police department as a whole and placate people. No statement about horrible the crimes or how maybe things need to change. Justice was served, people, nothing more to see here!

You cherry-picked one comment of my post so you could post a mildly funny gif. I guess you took the FRAT warning to heart. Kudos to you.

BTW, the guy looks white to me, especially in the court photos (where he's crying like a bitch). Plus, his name is pretty white-sounding. He just looks like a juiced up college football player. Oh, and a juiced up beady-eyed rapist. He definitely has that whole "I enjoy abusing my power" rapey look going on.
