No, common sense and the law are demanding that he does just that.
no one getting punched in the face is using "common sense". They're responding reflexively to getting punched in the face.
That reflex is to cover your face and move away from the blows.

The incident didn't begin with him being punched. He had ample opportunity to cooperate before that, but he chose not to. Just because he was stupid and/or drunk enough to think fighting the cops was a good idea does not excuse this choice.

If this happened to your friend or brother for example would that change your point of view do you think?

Not in the slightest. If they were stupid enough to resist arrest and keep resisting, that amount of force would be justified. Luckily, the people in my circle don't tend to break laws, and are bright enough to know that resisting arrest is a really bad idea.

Lol wut?
Not punching him in the face. Pretty sure three police officers can subdue a drunk without resorting to that. But I guess they are gay libs that deserve an ass kicking anyways.
I was referencing the overacting peanut gallery. Also, it's clear you've never tried to handcuff an intoxicated person that didn't want to cooperate.

Gonna have to find out what state this guy is from before I can say whether or not he deserved it...

I have no idea... But I'd imagine part of police training is to try and not use your fist to bounce someone's head off the pavement. There are more effective methods, they're just poor at control of their victim

The fuck does my MMA experience have to do with listening to police?
Since you entered the thread you was being a bit of a prick to be honest. Austin people are fags etc.... How would you have handled this? I'm actually intrigued to hear.

Cop has him mounted punching him in the face telling him to put his hands behind his back. How is he supposed to do just that? Can anyone here put there hands behind there back while mounted and getting punched in the face? When asked to roll over he does. No doubt break the law go to jail but that was excessive to say the least.
I'd love to try that on a few members here. Mount + Full G&P and see how the hands behind back experiment works out.
I'll yell "stop resisting!" every 3 seconds for effect.

You couldn't get full mount on a 12 year old girl.

Is this guy following his police training?
You think they learn in the academy that it's easier to put the cuffs on if you punch em in the face 15 times or so first?

Follow up: Suspect threatened bar manager with a knife. Suspect reached for officer's taser. Suspect had this on his person during the entire encounter:

Austin PD policy allows officers to punch suspects to effect an arrest if they believe that they are armed, which of course is a reasonable belief when the initial call was that the suspect threatened someone with a knife, and he indeed did have a knife, which was visible on his waistband. And oh yeah, he had meth on him and has prior convictions, including resisting arrest.

cops in Austin are usually pretty nice I think austin in general has nice people I like it more than houston and DFW. the nicest cops I ever met were in austin and in las vegas, I wasn't arrested twice there for behavior that would get me beat in L.A.

Can't speak for all those situations, but here where I live in Alaska when the cops shoot someone people generally figured he deserved it. Ain't no fancy organized protests going on up here. But then again Alaska does seem to be a magnet for all sorts of nutty deranged lunatics. Of course I'm perfectly sane and civilized.

People today are so sheltered from physical force that they became irrational when discussing it.

The woman deserved to be arrested. She repeatedly interfered with an arrest, despite being warned numerous times not to.

I'm not a cop sympathiser by any stretch but don't resist arrest or force will get escalated.

The woman deserves to be in jail. They should have tazed her hysterical ass.

As for the punches? Looks excessive. But if I've been told the guy has a knife and I can't get his hands under control - I'm dropping blows too. It's a fight at that point.
