none of those parties even ran in my riding
In a representive democracy, you are able to participate by voting in an election, voting on a referendum, writing your representive, and by running for office.
If you strongly support one of the unrepresented parties in your riding, it's sounds to me like you missed a golden oppourtunity to throw your hat in the ring. My riding has a strong Libertarian candidate, James Walper. I wouldn't dare run against him. We are considering moving from Red Deer and if we do, I would definitely jump at the chance to represent the party if there isn't a strong candidate in our new location.
Or you could just complain that no one else bothered to run like most people do and act like the future of your country isn't all of our responsibility.
