This one hurts growing up the Cubs were basically the Phoenix team. I remember going to see Cuban spring training games and then we would watch the cubs on WGN. RINO and The Hawks were my favorite players. RIP GOAT!

MLB spring training in the Phoenix metro area is the only place I would see teams that didn't play the angels in the american League. i would get to go to chase field there too.

April 9, 2018. Opening day at Wrigley as the actual opening day the 8th gets snowed out. So my cousin cant use his companies season tickets that are right next to the dugout. So he floats 4 of them to me. I take my wife and a couple buddies. My buddy to my right took this pic. Thats my thumb at the top of the pic. There were 4 ceremonial first pitches. Ryne Sandberg, Andre Dawson and I cant remember the other two. But this is before the game before the seats were packed. Im like the only dude standing there paying attention. So they do their pitches and the catcher gives them back the balls. Ryno is walking off the field, looks at me, and waves the ball to to me like "you want this thing?". He throws that ball right to me. I about shit my pants. His jersey is the only jersey I own, well beside a Payton Bears jersey of course. That was also the day the 1914 Club opened under Wrigley so we got all this swag like blankets and pins, free booze and food, stood at teh bar next to Rizzos wife (shes a 10), it was an insane day for a lifelong Cubs fan like me. I still have that ball and always wanted to get his autograph on it.... RIP to the GOAT 2nd baseman and all time great Cubbie!

Grew up a Cubs fan... growing up in Iowa.

Sandberg was my favorite player until Sosa came along. My dad used to hunt with Turk Wendell and he once grabbed Sandberg to come over and chat which was insanely cool to 10 year old (or whatever age it was) me. Dude was super generous with his time.

He was also known after retirement for being one of the bigger names to offer TTM autographs.

RIP
