I felt that Robin Black did an awesome job on Shooto and would make a great full time color commentator.

Rogan isn't a shill, he's just careful on how much he shits on the UFC but if you're not a fan you probably don't hear when he actually does. He's never really been afraid to voice his opinion on his podcast and has gotten some heat from time to time for things he says that may not fall in line with the company PR objectives.

He's a legend much like the rest of the early guys they signed that are still here. It will be different when he's gone but the world will keep turning and he'll keep doing his thing while the UFC keeps doing theirs.

You're surprised people get emotional and don't show self control while talking about MMA on a dedicated online message board? You are in the wrong place, dude.

Actually, this MMA place is different from the other (now) cesspools of loathing. It's good to keep a check on one another. We're all guests here, should behave as such. Opinions can be delivered thoughtfully yet still uphold their insistence. Self-control is good grasshopper...

It always sucks when Rogan isn't commentating. He adds something extra to the PPV events.

Hopefully they find someone with as much energy, passion, knowledge, and talent as him when he retires.

i agree, he is borderline shill but when he commentates its good to hear but the last PPV Goldberg and Stann was monotone and just there nothing special.

I think Stann is better at analyzing the action and giving you the perspective of the fighters. I think he also gives more info on behind the scenes activities that may be affecting a fighter, either positively or negatively.

Rogan brings the authentic excitment factor. He is the best at it and it seems like he is genuinely excited and not forcing it.

I prefer stann at this time. Rogan is good but i think his performance is not what it once was. I dont think he eats, breaths, sleeps the ufc like he used to and it is affecting his analysis more and more.

I agree. I think Stann is the best replacement for Rogan at this time.
Rogan's excitement, the way he yelled "OHHHHHHH" as someone got rocked, or "LOOK OUT, LOOK OUT" whenever someone sunk in a nasty rear naked was very indicative of the UFC before 2008ish.
When the events were still sparse, and had a Super Bowl-like electric atmosphere. His energy matched the energy of the time.

Now, getting several events a month and losing that excitement-build-up (at least, for the majority of the cards) I kind of enjoy the more relaxed but insightful Stann.

I don't think I'd ever complain hearing Stann calling fights. Anik is a bit of a bore and a bit contrived IMO, but if you watch any MMA outside of the UFC, you'd see that the UFC not only has the better fighters (as a whole), but they also have the better commentators.

Mauro is the best play by play guy in the business. Mauro, Stann, Rogan, 3 man booth dream team.

I'll miss the guy, but I'm not exactly torn up by it.

Problem is, as far as I can tell, he's basically the best guy for the job, even though, I havnt always been a big fan of the guy sometimes.

I just hope they find two new suitable replacements.

I've been saying for years that they should get a striking guy and a grappling guy. What would be great, is if DC retired soon and became a permanent Wrestling color commentator for the UFC, watching the Pre-lims with him for UFC 197 really helped me better understand what was going on in the clinch and against the cage, which are area's that are some of the least entertaining and aren't very self explanatory, but we often spend a great deal of time there.

Basically, have a striking guy to go over the Boxing/Kickboxing/Muay Thai etc that goes on in there, a guy who knows the technical terms of the moves instead of calling every spin kick a (spinning back kick) and then have a Grappling guy who knows Wrestling, Judo, Jiu Jitsu etc and all the technical terms and positions to explain too the audience.

Keep Goldie on for his voice and stuff, but the guy doesn't offer a whole lot in color commentating.

3 man team.

Edit: and no he's not the best at calling fights...the best at calling fights were Bas Rutten and Mauro Renallo.

Renallo you'd have to compare to Goldie as Mauro isn't a Color Guy. That's not a good comparison and as much as I like Mauro he does'nt have any MMA background and misses some of the subtllties of the fight, there's been many times he's been corrected by whomever has been sitting beside him.

Joe has his issues which EVERY person in that role does, but there is no doubt Rogan was the prototype and original at doing what he does. to an extent everybody since has tried to copy him. If he does retire for certain his replacement will be compared to Joe forever.
