Those who predicted a loss in the Octagon would mean an end to Ronda Rousey's A-list outside gigs turned out to be wrong.

In her first major move since losing the UFC women's bantamweight title to Holly Holmin Australia on Nov. 15, Rousey will host NBC's Saturday Night Live on Jan. 23, the network announced Tuesday.

Rousey will be just the third fighter to host the venerable comedy show, joining boxers Marvelous Marvin Hagler and George Foreman.

Who better to host a comedy show then someone who cannot take a joke and is always pissed. She seams to go along with the rest of the SNL host of late.
I complain but will probably still watch it:television:

I thought there was a comedic side to hosting this show that I guess is still on air?

Great idea. Get someone who seems to be constantly angry, clinically depressed, doesn't seem to have a sense of humor, & just had 'a piece of her die' in front of millions in devastating & embarrassing fashion. Great idea.

Well, at least we can all see how focused Ronda is on getting her belt back.

July...yeah right.

At least it's live. There's a chance something funny could happen.

ha ha

There'll be skits of her being amazing and idiot fans still booing her.

She'll cure AIDS and someone will shout "YOU SUCK", end child poverty and someone will throw an egg at her etc...

Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey was funny as hell. When I use to watch snl most of there host poked fun at themselfs for some reason don't see this happening though. Hope her the best and doesn't bomb. Wonder if any other UFC fighters will make cameos that night.

As long as she does what the writers want from her, she will come out smelling like roses. A bit of self deprecating humour, and being a good sport, and people will eat it up.

SNL needs to have Justin Timberlake host every week, and do a Dick in the Box skit every show.

I think that's great news. Lots of hardcore fans might hate Ronda, but she has brought an entirely new demographic and group of people to MMA that would never have seen it otherwise. Even if those people only really buy HER fights in particular, it's still thousands and thousands of people tuning into MMA who otherwise would not.

I like Ronda, and I'm glad to hear she has the opportunity to do this. I haven't seen SNL in years, but it's still a big deal of a show with big ratings. This, to me, is nothing but good news. Good for her.

I'm glad she is.. A lot of people online think that once a fighter loses, they are automatically a nobody and nobody would want them. Since Ronda lost, in like 2 months, she got the ESPN the mag cover, is doing another SI issue (with bodypaint), and will be hosting SNL. That's all AFTER she lost, not before. Ronda is still super famous and the general public loves her, especially TV people related to the shows she's been on.

People also think that if she loses she will no longer get movie roles etc.. I completely disagree.. she is by far the most famous female fighter in history. Before her, no PPV ever in any combat sport by a female got over 150,000 buys. In one year, Ronda brought in over 2 million buys combined, including over a mil for 193.

Ronda is massively famous for a combat sports athlete. People online who hate her don't wanna admit this/don't understand this. But her accomplishments have inspired a lotttt of people, especially younger women. I've seen it with my own eyes and the numbers don't lie. She brings in huge buys, she is super famous and will continue to be after her fighting career is over. She isn't just going to fade away forever because she lost - even if she loses again.

Once the shock of her losing has worn off a bit, and again - even if she loses again - Ronda will not be going anywhere. She's the most famous female fighter in history and that can't be disputed. Leila Ali, who would be 2nd I suppose, barely came close to breaking 1/10th of the PPV buys Ronda did in her last show.

Ronda will have a career in Hollywood for years after she retires whether she loses again or not. Whether or not it's acting in big time movies or not, she will easily be able to get the same kind of gigs a Leila Ali does - hosting different types of shows, and that kind of thing. Trust me, 10 years down the line ,she will still be on TV in many diff ways

Sorry for the rant, I agree with your post completely T @DNB - it's juts funny to me how hardcore MMA fans who hate Ronda think that because she lost a fight, the entire world is gonna shun her and that TV/movie people are gonna want nothing to do with her for eternity.

I expect people to disagree with this post, but they're wrong. Ronda will always be able to get work in TV/movies after she retires despite winning or losing.

I can actually understand why a lot of people dont like her but I find her to be interesting. I'd rather her be a little rough around the edges than cookie cutter.
She does get a lot of hate but those people are more vocal than the fans which is true for anyone.

I think people have a warped perspective on how the casual fan audience view Ronda. They feel like everyone in the world hates her because thousands and thousands of people trolled her online after her loss

Ronda was literally bringing in MILLIONS of PPV viewers in the US alone. Ronda also has her own demographic - people that buy only her UFC PPVs and no one else. They're mostly women, too. Dave Meltzer has done some great breakdowns on this. Ronda fights have a totally diff audience than other UFC fights. McGregor has a similar thing going ,where he pulls from an audience that doesn't watch the UFC unless he's on it

That's why combining Ronda and Conor on a card would be massive. They both would pull two totally separate demos of people together for one show, who usually only tune in to watch one or the other. They don't tune in to other UFCs... Meltzer said something crazy like more than 70% of people that bought Ronda's fights this year bought ONLY Ronda's fights, and no other UFCs (Cat, Bethe, Holly). That's nuts.. that's an audience of people who care ONLY about Ronda, and statistically, they are mostly women.

Ronda has already done enough and had enough spectacular victories in the eyes of the general public that order only her fights, to solidify her place amongst them as a bad ass woman and someone they look up to. That's why she will always be around in TV or movies. She has her own audience totally separate from the regular MMA viewers. It's not like Ronda barely had 1 or 2 wins or only drew a couple times. She several wins, back to back to back, that were extremely one sided and seen by millions and millions of people, both live on PPV and all over social media. Fights so short they could be posted on Instagram. It's not like Ronda beat only one person one time on a grand scale. She had at least 4 big time victories numbers wise that made her a mega star - Cat, Davis, Miesha and Bethe - all were seen by MASSIVE amounts of people. Ronda has proven herself as a badass to women and people who don't regularly watch fights, and they love her. They don't care that she lost.

Ronda already solidified herself. Yeah she lost, but she will be around forever, and will be one of the few MMA fighters who is able to pull in REAL money after retirement. That's a good thing. Any fighter who can continue to get not just income, but a lot of it, after retiring from fighting.. I have to be happy for that person. But since other people hate her, they just wanna act like she is nothing to anybody anymore. Well, that can't be further from the truth. Ronda's social media numbers went up by MILLIONS in a week + after she fought Holly.

Ronda may not be some A list actress who wins Oscars and stars in dramatic films (who the hell expected her to be?) but she will ALWAYS be around in show biz in some form or another post retirement. Watch.
