he lived with his mom, he was under her health insurance, he didn't have a job, she claimed him as a dependent. She lived with her adult child, it was probably a co-dependent relationship after the father left.

But respectfully, he is an adult man with no criminal record. He lived with his mum, sure, but he was an adult.

He's only "the definition of someone who should not be given access to an AR-15" in hindsight.

Absolutely not.

This was someone who was totally socially isolated. Never had a job, a friend, or a partner or even a hookup. If part of the gun licensing process was to provide a non-relative to vouch for good character, he was zero percent chance of being able to do that.

That's what was clear and immediately obvious to everybody who interacted with the guy, which was virtually nobody because he never left his bedroom.

And there was the spreadsheet he'd made, with thousands of entries about hundreds of murder massacres detailing who, how many victims, what weapons, etc.

There are literally MILLIONS of people with the same (or worse) underlying mental health issues as Lanza who manage to forego mass murder, and 10s of millions with access to the same, or more lethal, firearm that he had access to that forego mass murder.

You perhaps underestimate just how deeply socially isolated and mentally ill Lanza and Cho were. Anyone as disconnected from society and as completely unable to establish any kind of communication or social relationship at all as those two were, should not be able to buy Glocks and AR-15s.

If you really care about saving children's lives, you should get on board with banning swimming pools.

Well that's nonsensical, isn't it. What are swimming pools designed to do? Kill things? Let's ban cars as well because people kill each other with them, right? No, let's establish some sort of training and licensing process which we take seriously.
