None of this is compelling at all though. These ridiculous suits are going to be pieces of cake for UFC lawyers to steam roll. If they all don't get folded into one case, they will start disappearing after the first one or two get crushed. The sheer fact that the UFC has always had a very credible #2 promotion (or #1 promotion when Pride was around) with very deep pockets makes these all non-starters. The UFC is a monopoly? Then why did Strikeforce get the universally recognized GOAT when he was a free agent? Explain that Gabe? Can't? Never saw that coming.
pride held their final show on april 8th of 2007. i believe the suits focus around 2007- 2008 to 2011, but i'm not 100% sure. strikeforce was bought out on march 12th of 2011. bellator started airing on spike tv on march of 2013. they bought the competition, and shut them down. this also isn't only about them being a monopsony (monopsonist can dictate terms to its suppliers, as the only purchaser of a good or service, much in the same manner that a monopolist is said to control the market for its buyers in a monopoly, in which only one seller faces many buyers).

You could buy other operating systems than windows, but it didn't stop Microsoft from losing a monopoly lawsuit.

They didn't steam roll the cases Xyience filed against Rich Bergeron, because it had merit and validity to it. He was a small time reporter who looked into where all of that company's debt was going, how the Fertittas were scamming investors, and more. He exposed the straight out fraud the company was involved in. They tried to shut him up and sue him for more than he'd ever be worth, multiple times, with the best lawyers money could by.

They had nothing, because every single thing he repoted on was true. They lost and lost a ton of money in the process. You don't hear about that much, at all, do you? If you ask me, with everything going on in the UFC, I would not be surprised if a lot of things come out when this goes to trial. The more fighters who file suit and the more shady bullshit the UFC is involved in, the more you may end up surprised.

PS Strikeforce was bought by the UFC 4 years ago. They were the last major player. Bellator is nowhere close, but is slowly gaining momentum. The fact is, the UFC has bought so many major organizations that provided alternate revenue streams and negotiating power to fighters. Some under shady circumstances as well.. Including Zuffa's purchase of the UFC itself, which is the shadiest of them all.

Microsoft and Xyience have nothing to do with these lawsuits so they are invalid comparisons. I'm happy to agree to disagree, because I honestly am not emotionally invested at all in the lawsuits. Based on what I've read and understand (which is not everything) I just don't think these lawsuits are more than sour guys grasping at the last straws they think they can get.

You made two specific claims, and when they are refuted with two different cases which contradict your points, those cases are invalid comparisons because they 'have nothing to do with these lawsuits'? What does that even mean?

my old promoter used to pay ufc fighters to be special guests at events for amateur fights, and zuffa actually threatened him if he were to try anything. i need to see if he still has the papers. people like him could also be of some help to the cases. i'm sure he isn't the only one that it's happened to.

Not when they sign an exclusivity contract they aren't. From an organization's perspective, it makes sense to lock fighters down to only your shows. For second rate promotions, sometimes that option is something they have to give up in order to get a fighter to just participate at all with them (Strikeforce and Fedor for example). The UFC is doing exactly the right thing for the UFC. As a fan, it's easy to want fighters to have options, but the UFC is an entity that has to act in its own best long term interests just like the fighters.

Let's face it, the only way to become a star and make money in this sport is through the UFC. No one starts off in Bellator and becomes a financial success. If you are any real money outside of the UFC, it's because you were once a popular UFC fighter. Guys like Askren are making chump change compared to what he'd be making in the UFC had he played his cards differently. That being the case, the UFC holds significant leverage when demanding exclusivity. This is just business, it's how the world works. It's the same way in almost any industry, but since none of us care about widget suppliers and service contractors we don't get all up in arms over it. People care about MMA so that somehow makes the UFC seem worse than every other successful company that is doing exactly the same thing when they are a position to do so.
This is a quote from Gasper he posted in the thread about if fighters should be allowed to fight for other orgs and is in response to someone saying that fighters are independent contractors.

However, here you say that the UFC is not a monopoly, yet there you are saying they are the only place to make money. That seems pretty contradictory to me. Also do you realize that part of the lawsuits is that fighters are independent contractors, but are being treated like employees - this gives the UFC the best of both worlds, they get all the benefits that you would get from having employees, but don't have to provide the benefits to those employees because in name they are independent contractors?

Yet, according to you none of the lawsuit is compelling. In one thread you're bashing the lawsuit, and another fluffing the UFC's right to take advantage of the people who work for them, because 'every other successful company' is doing 'exactly the same'. Which isn't true, Microsoft again lost a lawsuit to employees who were told they were independent contractors, but were treated like employees. Here is an article on it if you like http://www.reuters.com/article/2009/...53063S20090401. Honestly, I don't know whether you are just severely misinformed or a shill.

Gasper Oliver Son is a great member. It's a real shame how this thread went. He created some really great threads on the UG about PRIDE.

Just because we don't agree with each others opinions doesn't mean we have to attack people and call them shills. I was happy to debate with the guy on page 1 but we did not throw pointless insults at each other. He is 100% not a shill, trust me on that.

The pointless arguments are what make the UG shit. People need to learn to agree to disagree on here. Gasper was a valuable member who was going to bring some really good stuff here. Bummer.

I will call out shills in a NY minute...Logic, Dutch, Cindy O, timetraveler, etc. But gasper never caught my attention as being one. I am by NO means defending shills...that will never happen. But maybe gasper just has a different opinion on this particular subject? I don't want to run people off for having opinions that go against the majority here. I would rather the forum be a platform for respectful debate and intelligent discussion.

se7enout is also payed
I have a list on my old hard drive. Honestly I'm tired of it.

On the thread where MMALOGIC had to change his screen name(re;WatchBellatorOnSpike), se7en out and Dutch were on it quick.
All these guys work together, so.....
MMALOGIC tried to pay $100 to keep it, I told the poster I'd give him the $100 to enforce it, then it went up to $200, eventually after several days and getting it up to $500, LOGIC finally cracked and took the screen name, posted on his mudnames, and only a few times as "Watch Bellator On Spike".
I'd love to get that copy/pasted as well as other threads over here in a "classic archives" type subforum.
