Only way was on purpose if it was a preexisting chat. I've used signal for years. It was funded by the CIA for years to be 100% honest, and that's not classified
My understanding is signal is approved for DOD conversations as well, from your understanding is that correct?

Does it matter who he was? How did he get in that chat? Why did any of them have his number in the first place?

So many hilarious questions.

What a colossal f@ck up.
1. It does matter who he was, it's not random that he was added.
2. He was added on purpose by someone, I'm unaware of who.
3. $$$ or personal favor, it's as simple as that

Not a fuck up if it was purposeful

I can't confirm this but it's my belief.

Dude I've gotten strike authorizations through Signal when I was doing drones. Legit orders to kill motherfuckers.

If you have any asset in country against an adversary with the slightest ability you don't want to use US government methods as they stick out in the spectrum. You want to be able to hide within the existing architecture of a place. Signal allows that.

But yes, I use signal with multiple government clients and have authorization to do so

Not much different from a text message group chat. You pick contacts from your phone's address book to add to the chat. Someone tapped on the wrong contact, either on accident or purpose. And since some of them were using initials in their names, probably didn't stand out and no one wanted to ask the uncomfortable question of "Who the fuck are you?"

More interesting question is why he had an editor at The Atlantic as a Signal contact.

And although I think their motivation is different, they're probably guilty of the same thing Hillary should have been locked up for: violating the Federal Records Act.

Then there's the sad fact that the federal IT infrastructure isn't trusted/good enough that they're using a commercial vendor. Similar to European leaders and Whatsapp. Dumb, dumb, and dumb.
But Killary has somehow not been charged????
