They are mixing and matching terms that don't mean what they think.
He did not renew his board certification which is a private company and an optional choice. There are many reasons that many doctors that have in a practice for a long time choose not to renew their board certification if they don't need it. It costs tons of money and it's a total pain in the ass
He has never had his license lapse or been sanctioned for anything. A cursory Google shows high ratings, which are really nothing more akin to customer satisfaction and doesn't say much about his practice abilities.
I maintain a board certification because I am bullied into it by hospitals and insurance companies. But the same maintenance of certification processes are running docs out of business in Texas and we have entire conversation and legal changes right now regarding it. Specifically recently hospitals can no longer require that the staff be forced into maintenance of certification for privileges and it's a staff choice.
Board certification has recently become something that it was never supposed to be in many an opinion.
