No, it doesn't. You're conflating their job description with the oath they take. Their oath is to the constitution which represents the will of the people. As I previously pointed out to you, it's not a static thing, it's a living document intended to be interpreted and changed at the behest of the public.

If their job was to literally "protect" the constitution as you're suggesting there would never be any amendments or new legislation.
By your rationale, there would be literally nothing a Congressman could do that was a dereliction of duty. No matter what they did, you would cut and paste the exact same "argument" that they were only doing what their constituents wanted them to.

And yes, the Constitution is a living document.

Has it been amended to turn the President into a dictator who has the institutional power to overturn the result of an election, or refuse to certify one that he doesn't like the result of?

Or does it clearly spell out the separation of powers, with the explicit reasoning that the Senate and Congress are there to act as a check on the President's power, as a safeguard against the rise of an authoritarian tyrant?

Exactly as Cheney did, in fact?

the gifs serve a couple purposes. since you've claimed not to like them, people are going to frequently respond to you with them. why? because people here like to get under each others skin

but thats not necessarily a bad thing. like my post about will. his name isnt even will and he's not a moron. he's my boy. but im just not that funny, so that type of humor is the best i got

and the primary reason for gifs is because underneath every political, mma, or other discussion, theres always room for humor. we can certainly discuss shit, learn, and grow as humans here. but is that the main point of the site? ... most people are primarily here just to chill with some homies. and gifs are great way to get someone to smile/laugh and shit

ok, im gonna stop being corny

i dont even care about anyone here

here's to everyone
At what point does the humour stop, and we realise that this shit isn't a game and that we are in fall of the Republic territory because of these morons and their disconnect from reality?

More than two-thirds of Republican voters now believe that Trump won the election and had it stolen from him. That is not reality-based. That is purely because of months and months of party-backed lies.

At what point do we say that this is a BIG problem, and that it is coming from one side?

I mean, how fucking extreme does the Republican Party have to get, before Mitt Romney gets booed at the Utah Republican Convention, just for saying that Trump lost and the Republican Party needs to accept reality?

At what point does this shit stop being funny, and start being scary?

Incorrect.

Has it been amended to turn the President into a dictator who has the institutional power to overturn the result of an election, or refuse to certify one that he doesn't like the result of?
No one said it has been.

That's not what she was doing. I do like how you phrase things like you're a TV lawyer though.

Why do you have to constantly talk in cryptic roundabouts?

Cheney's primary allegiance - according to the oath she swore on taking office - is to the Constitution before Trump or her constituents. Agreed, or no?

Her primary allegiance is supposed to be to her constituents. When January 6th happened she decided to try to move the party in her own, more conservative direction, by denouncing Trump and turning her back on the constituents who voted her in because she spent 4 years supporting him.

So you keep saying.

You repeating it, doesn't make it real.

The oath she swore, is to defend and uphold the Constitution.

Her duty is to the Constitution. Not to Trump, not to the GOP, not to her constituents. To the Constitution.

That's why the first words in her oath of office, was to swear to defend the Constitution.

That's why every public official's oath - from the President on down - first talks about the Constitution.

What are the first words of the President's oath of office?

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

What's every single military officer's first words of their oath?

"I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same....."

Cheney's first and foremost official duty is to protect and defend the Constitution. End of. So is Mike Pence's. So is EVERY elected official and EVERY military officer. It is the nation's highest law, and it is placed before loyalty to party, to voters or to the President. That is simply the truth of the matter. You can think I'm a dick all you want, that doesn't make me wrong on this. Cheney did her duty and showed real courage in standing up to an authoritarian.

Here's another American government source:

Through legislative debate and compromise, the U.S. Congress makes laws that influence our daily lives. It holds hearings to inform the legislative process, conducts investigations to oversee the executive branch, and serves as the voice of the people and the states in the federal government.

Congress is voted in by the people, to act in the interest of the people.

Okay.

What happens if Congress tries to pass a law or a bill that the Justice Department rules violates the Constitution?

Does it become law?

If not - why not?

Or, let's take another approach.

Which US citizens have official powers that supercede the Constitution?

Individually, none. Collectively, all.
So no official can pass legislation that is found by the courts to violate the Constitution?

Agreed? Or not?

For the second time - what happens if Congress tries to pass a law that the Justice Department rules violates the Constitution?

Does the Supreme Court go and check how popular the proposed law is among the lawmaker's constituents/voters, and then make a ruling?

Or is what the constituents think about it, irrelevant?

None of this is relevant to the Liz Cheney discussion.

It is when you're trying to claim that her duty is first and foremost to her constituent's wishes and not to the Constitution.

This is incorrect, plain and simple. Her constituents vote for a representative. Once she is seated, their role is finished until the next election. The representative can vote any way they want. AOC can spend two years voting in lockstep with Ted Cruz, if she wants to. But her primary duty is to protect, defend and uphold the Constitution. That's why that is literally the first thing that every single public official in the nation swears.

Cheney was being a patriot by refusing to bend the knee to an anti-democratic wannabe authoritarian. So was Pence.

Repeatedly saying that it's not so, doesn't make it not so.

Good job on repeatedly ignoring questions that produce inconvenient answers, though. ?

As I've told you before, I'm not interested in bad faith conversations. This is why I don't like talking to you, this is why no one else likes talking to you, and it's why you probably won't be around much longer unless you recognize it's not that everyone else is unreasonable.

Okay, well I argue about politics while I'm at work to blow off steam between calls, and I'm at home now just hanging out with the dog and doing fuck all. This isn't the arena, we're just two faceless strangers who will never meet, we are only words on a screen.

And to me, I will back up everything I say. If you can show me I'm wrong, I am happy to concede the point. You dismissed or ignored every single thing that I said, even when I used your own source to back it up. To me, that means you are not having a discussion in good faith. Is that fair?

"unreasonable." i like that word. i want to expand on it

hey Miesha's Taint @CharlesOliveirasHair and Sheepdog @Maycee Barber Fan ... yall weighed in on the C word in the posts below. so i was just curious about the nuance here: if i called someone an "unreasonable cunt" ... is that a good type of cunt or a bad type?

K @kaladin stormblessed

I use cunt at least 5 times a day...Its just a Aussie thing....

Sick cunt (great guy)
Cunt (asshole)
This nuance is even more stark with women.

Sick cunt (perfectly acceptable way of saying 'nice lady')
Cunt (you've committed a crime against humanity)

I have shown that you were (are) wrong. You ignored that you were wrong when shown evidence, then conflated other things to obfuscate the evidence. You then proceeded into a tangent of unrelated matters to further move the goal posts away from where they were initially set. If you don't think that elected officials first duty is supposed to be to their electorate then you don't understand the basic fundamentals of a western democracy, which is kind of hilarious given your constant posting about the destruction of democracy.

You dismissed or ignored every single thing that I said, even when I used your own source to back it up. To me, that means you are not having a discussion in good faith. Is that fair?
When the topics of discussion you bring up are not germane to the discussion me not answering them only means I've no interest in participating in bad faith conversations.

Out of curiosity, if you believe an elected officials duty is to protect the constitution. How do you rationalize passing laws, amending the constitution, or even having elections at all?
