they are pretty clueless in terms of modern norms. economics. politics. etc
but i wouldnt go as far as to call them a disgrace. all the boomers i know are either immigrants or first gen americans whose fathers fought in ww2
that was presumably insane. cant blame them for mentally checking out for the rest of their lives
Sure, we all know or knew boomers who were great.
It's interesting to wonder about generational trauma as well. Millions of men going off to war and coming back broken, returning to a culture where they couldn't talk about what they saw and did and how it affected them. And then the boomers being raised by these deeply traumatised people.
But they had it so good. A regular average blue collar nobody could buy a house, run two cars and raise two kids on one normal wage. And like it or not, boomers are the generation who has given us the current Gilded Age levels of wealth and income inequality.
Of course, nothing is ever 100% black and white. I enjoy a lot of legal protections at work that didn't exist for my grandparents. My lesbian friend lives a far better life than she would have half a century ago, because of anti-discrimination laws that boomers passed years ago.
But on the whole, my generation is inheriting a world that has squandered so much potential because of an overload of stupid, spoiled, selfish, spiteful people. Not every single one of them, of course, or even maybe a majority of them. But as a generation, they have allowed us in our societies to embrace the worst versions of ourselves in so many ways. Shortsighted greed and selfishness over all else, that is their collective legacy as a generation, unfortunately.
