It's hilarious that the Russians are competing in this Olympics.
Technically they are considered independent athletes
But I get what you're saying

I would have prefered if they competed under the name of Independant athletes under the Olympic flag and Russia not be in the name

If those people were not a part of the state sponsored doping shit then I see no reason why they should not be able to compete

The Olympics a nothing but a business card, for political/economic gain, used to for power projection, showing prestige. And then, it all just goes away. Not saying it is good or bad, but certainly, it is wasteful.
Oh I agree with you on this
I love it for the sport but the politics of it are fucking disgusting and even how corporate it has become is disgusting

And the waste is unimaginable

At least places like Calgary and Montreal still use some of their Olympic stuff and keep it nice

Calgary games were awesome by the way. Speed skating in particular.

There are 2 issues. 1) if they didn't keep referring to the as Russian athletes it wouldn't be as big am issue. 2) according to the doctor who ran the program all of the athletes were involved.

Was it just the insane traffic and stuff or did they let stuff go to waste afterwards?
They still use everything.it just cost the people of bc 100s of millions of dollars that we will be paying back for the next 30 years for a 2 week event

It's all fun and games during the Olympics, but what happens after? Some haunting depictions of what happens after...

Beijing 2008 Summer Games - Volley Ball venue.

Sarajevo 1984 Winter Games - Ski Jump

Rio 2016 Summer Games - Aquatic Center

Athens 2004 Summer Games - Kayak Slalom Center

Sochi 2014 Winter Games

Berlin 1936 Summer Games - Athletes housing

Any other examples?

Stop being a Debbie Downer during the Olympics.

Ya, isn't Montreal still paying for the Olympics in the 80s?
Either that or they just recently paid it off

Calgary I believe actually did well and didn't go into crazy debt
I could be remembering wrong though

I absolutely agree with you on #1
Number two, I think anybody who was part of the last Olympics for Russia should not be allowed to compete
However, if you were not part of the team while this was going on, we don't know if they were using
I could be wrong and the Russians were also doping the up and comers but I really don't know

One thing we do know, if you were not part of the doping program, you were not in the Olympics as an athlete.

After all, in Russia, you don't run the program, the program runs you.
