so the cunt "resigned" but wont actually be resigning for a couple months. just what we need a coked up narcissist with a shattered ego running the country with zero consequences to his actions . what are they going to do to him? not re -elect him ? the deputy PM just fuckin quit like 2 weeks ago . the government wont sit again until the end of March . we are pretty much sailing blind on the open seas right now

In what sense? I doubt the US will invade us, looks like cracking down on illegal immigration is next on the agenda.

Im happy Trudeau is stepping down and not dragging this out
he is dragging it out though . he wont be stepping down for several months

Nah. When this type of thing happens elsewhere and previously almost always a really poor showing follows.

Center left voters will vote conservative. Further left of center will move to NDP. I don't think liberals will recover much with this move I'll guess they end up less than 25% of the vote come election time.

The real question is how many center right voters vote PPC and how many seats will conservatives lose to them. They're the only ones that can lose the election for the conservatives.. Liberals still wouldn't win outright but they might be able to do a coalition with NDP again.
PPC is dead . this will be their last election. i wish it werent so but it is

Can you explain this to an American?
basically parliament was supposed to come back from winter break at the end of the month . by proroguing parliament it effectively kills any unfinshed business or unpassed bills . it also stop trudeau from having to face any critics or appear in the house of commons ever again . the act of proroguing basically means calling an end to the parliament . trudeau has to ask the governor general to do it . she is the only one with the power to do so . trudeau was likely to have faced a vote of non confidence and be forced in to calling an election if parliament sat . it is a way of buying time for the Liberal party to find another leader before the next election

I don't follow Canadian politics but I thought he was pretty popular up there overall? He's won the election more than once, right?

And I guess I don't understand why he stepping down. If there are only 10 more months until the next election, and he's not running again, why step aside without a major scandal?

Lol.. Popular yes.. Liked? No. He's hated, the most hated person in politics in many many decades.

Housing is 3-4x'd under Trudeau's reign, immigration way up, legalized drugs, crime up, homeless way up. Dude did as much to destroy a country as you could pretty much do in a first world country.

He stepped down because he has a minority government and the other party propping him up told him they'd vote no confidence (kick him out by aligning with opposition) if he didn't step down.

It was NOT by choice. He was forced to resign.

And NDP has supported him through a bunch of scandals and low levels of popularity.. Just shows how BAD it is right now that they finally grew some balls.

trudeau hasnt been popular for a while. his party is sinking in the polls . trudy is also at the center of a new scandal weekly . he is getting out of dodge before the shit hits the fan and making sure someone else is at the helm when it finally comes all crashing down . his own party is starting to turn on him . he doesnt have much choice
