Yep, that's all we used, one of the new handler's in k-9 school had his finger bit off while training his dog. He had to requalify with his gun on his weak hand since he was missing a finger. They are called land sharks for a reason.

Ball/chew toys are a reward for them when they accomplished their job, found the junkie that fled the car, get the toy, hit on a load of drugs, get the toy. You can actually see them get frustrated when they aren't able to accomplish their job. My Sarge's dog would freak the fuck out if he failed. Feeding them is also part of the training and a daily thing.
