Everyday use of the language, daily interaction will increase vocabulairy and grammar. Grammar especially is a big deal if you are actively using your own language.

English is my second language, but by living here it made me think and dream in English.

Do not be afraid to make mistakes, even if you have the pronounciation or spelling wrong. The mistakes are what teach you the most. You'll never forget that moment you ordered a bunch of dead babies, light on the hot sauce, and a small coke.

Thanks for the tips. It is inspiring when you see other people who have done it. What was your first language if you don't mind me asking?

Dutch. The language barrier wasn't there since I already knew English. But learning, knowing, and mastering/owning a language are three different and distinct phases.
