Took Out A $1 Million Loan To Buy A Drive In Theater

Had a conversation with a guy that owned 3 in the area asked why the majority of drive ins closed his reply was liability insurance and crazy cost to get movies to show, they also had to share a % of their nightly earnings with the movie suppliers
the only money they got to keep were the concessions

It’s like $30 a car load now a car load is considered 4 ppl

That’s not tooooo bad all things considered. You go to a Friday night show at AMC and you’re paying 20$ a head. $7.50 and a cool experience sounds pretty good

Also the split with the studios sounds pretty much the same as a normal theater. It’s why popcorn costs 15$ lol

At least at the drive in you can stuff ppl in the trunk load up with beer then turn it into a party just to feel like you get your money worth

WHEW...I was about to prepare for an even worse or crazier small-business owning thread from OP.

I've told it before but I was in a piss stall surrounded by a couple of rantulas. Then, driving away I saw a bunch of them crossing the dirt paths. At least rattlers warn you. These fuckers are silent killers.

You will have to rape folks on the concessions to make any money on a theater it is not a profitable business. I used to go to 12 movies a year or one a month and now I haven't been to a single movie all year

Stop being a pussy, they won't disturb you if you don't them. And it's basically a bee sting.

I wish them well, I have great memories from the 70's from the drive in, saw meatballs there. We used to go once a month.

Grew up through the ‘60s and ‘70s where it was our summer weekend staple. I think prior to being able to drive myself to one I had seen maybe 4 movies in an indoor theater. Everything else was drive-in fare. We’d be at a Disney or Elvis movie and they’d show a preview for some gnarly grindhouse shit and I’d be like “Why can’t we ever come see something like that?”

There were a couple in the area when I was a kid, we went alot. 1 had the newest movies. We never went to that one. The other one showed movies a couple months after they came out, plus all the movies from last summer. 6 or 8 screens (can't remember) in a circle , projectors and concessions in the center.
It was like 4-5 bucks a carload.

As a kid it was awesome because back then parents didn't pay attention at all.
Next to the concessions stand was a huge playground with all kinds of sketchy 70s rides and unsupervised kids running wild. This was where all the action was.

In high-school they changed to per person, or maybe they just did that to teenagers, i dunno, so we'd send two people in with all the beer and lawn chairs and shit and the rest of us would sneak in under the fence. Fun fun times.

I remember when they went to low power fm for each screen instead of the box on a cord.
So many dead batteries by the end of the 3rd movie.
