Had the contract been awarded after next July it would make for an easier justification. Part of the civil service training is to not just avoid kickbacks or “gifts” but to also avoid anything that can be perceived as such. Not that the left has followed this but when trying to expose their bs you should not present such an easy target yourself
They're going to love this. Green energy and war. That's their 2 favourite things together. Am I right?
In seriousness I think there's going to be so much more of this wasteful spending and fraud coming still that they're actually going to look a little silly complaining about this.
Normally this would be a horrible look , however this isn't really a normal time with the amount of corruption that's going to get exposed.
It's far from over. This will only get worse and could go on for months or even years if they just keep following the money and exposing/investigating the players.
There's also a compounding effect of them cutting of the money. These entities and media outlets pushing propaganda for that government money are going to start drying up and not push the agenda like they have the last 8 years.
You can already see it in a small way. That's a big part of the reason why the TDS is a few notches lower than expected.

The easiest way for the Trump team to win the argument & put the entire thing to bed is to show the open bid that was put out. As long as there was either a price advantage or justification for making the choice they did (Tesla) then the whole thing goes away as a legitimate contract. Otherwise it can be spun and interpreted as a this for that scenario, which is illegal.

I just view this as a civil servant supervisor/manager. When I’m building a case against someone, I make every effort to not look like I’m doing the same (or similar) errors as them. It’s just the optics they can use with the investigation team.

Yeah, maybe kick the can in this one. But what other manufacturer can make a fleet full of EV armored vehicles? GM with the Hummer? Lefties pat themselves on the back when they switch out a perfectly running gas powered school bus with an electric one, so if this is replacing a fleet of ICE vehicles they have no leg to stand in other. Also, Tesla will probably actually deliver. With that said I'm pro gas.

I totally understand where your coming from.
I'm just saying these are not normal times and it won't land anywhere near as badly as it normally would.
My criticisms of musk aren't the standard ones. But a large part of them are based around this. All of his companies are based around get that government money. Which is smart if you want to get rich , but it also inhibits him from calling out the government for being totally iligimate and the enemy of the people. Which he absolutely knows it is.

A month ago this would have bothered me but after seeing where all the other money has went. This is much less than one percent of that and we've actually been told about it.

Amazon does the same thing. They offer cloud services to government & make more money on that than their huge selling platform. It's why AWS has been hiring so much over the last few years (including recruiting people like me who trade energy for a living).

I think the only reason for the way Teslas look is for it to be some sort of war or law enforcement vehicle. It is ugly as hell and there is no other like it. It should only be available to the government, imho.

I became aware of that when they shut off the internet for parlor in 2020.
It was the biggest story that just wasn't talked about, that Amazon and Google basically owned the internet due to their servers. ( by extension the government , they are in bed with both of those companies).
I wasn't aware of how much Amazon made untill you mentioned it but I'm not surprised one bit.
Another good example would be Peter theil ( who I like more than elon ) and his company palantier.
All 3 of those guys are thoroughly familiar with the libitarian/anarchist concepts. They know damn well who lysander spooner is and that his position is correct, yet they are all to regard to get themselves some of that government money because they know that's where the big bucks are .
So while I don't hate them , I don't respect them either. They certainly aren't men of high moral conviction.
As much as people might disagree with that and say " but but, look at what elon did with Twitter ". No . That's the truth , and elon knows the value of Twitter and the leverage he will have with that down the road. He won't come cheap like the last owners did though.

I remember first seeing it thinking it looked like a futuristic military vehicle.
It probably wasn't just me that had that thought then.

does look like a future hummer
If they armor them up I think the entire build will have to be upgraded to support the extra weight

I will give the Cyber Truck credit for low speed heavy towing & not overheating. Several other light duty trucks can't tow max payload at low speed without overheating the transmission

I think this is a point worth reiterating.
I just saw a favourable article by politico on trump making a deal to end the war in Ukraine.
They were getting that USAID money.
3 weeks ago they would have been calling him a putin puppet for this.
This is a positive not really being talked about that people should be on the lookout for.

What are people's thoughts here with how far trump will go down this rabbit hole of waste fraud and abuse.
Is he going to go all the way with it ?
Is he going to get to the MIC ?
I'm not sure.
With this conflict of interest with elon maybe he stops short of the MIC.
On the other hand he might expose it to make elons contract seem more legitimate.
It's going to say a lot about how serious they are in cleaning up government spending and I hope they get pressed on it if they don't go that far.
