That would be good advice if it were not for the fervent defense of the current US government administration. About half of America currently thinks the exact opposite.
No sir.

We have a favorable view of a handful of PEOPLE. We fully acknowledge that our government extends well beyond those people and works actively against our interests, including the subversion of our rights.

What we're cheering on and defending is the shrinking of our government and its power over us.

Courtesy Bear, that right there illustrates what I just said.

Our government is massive and bloated. It extends well beyond the current administration.

The wise among us distrust it and want to see it cut down to only the basics.

While others like rdot are servile and identify with their captors.

No. But I suspect there is a misunderstanding in the posts, so you might have to spell out exactly what you mean.
I was quoting jason73 @jason73 who I'm sure can ask for clarification.

In your post you ask for clarification and then also say you're making the same point. So somehow, and this is amazing, you both completely understand what I'm saying, but also don't.

I would say that's more of a reaction to the poll results as a result of Trump's actions.

Previously, the upcoming election was more of a "Is it time for change" referendum, and polling suggested that the majority answer was "yes" which was bad news for the liberals. Now it's more about "Who can better deal with Trump?" and as a result, for some reason, the liberals are polling better. Trudeau stepping down has also helped their polling.

Trump's economic attack on Canada has united Canadians more than I recall ever seeing before. Hell, even the Quebec separatist support has weakened.

It will no doubt hurt Canada more, but I think it's being overestimated by how much. The numbers in that tweet are misleading. Looking at the ballpark figures of ~350 billion exports to Canada and ~415 billion imports from Canada gives a better view. Couple that with the fact that this trade war isn't just with Canada, include Mexico and China. Between those three you are looking at more than 800 billion in US exports.

The most obvious outcome is that these three nations strengthen and grow their trade relations as well as seek out other trade partners. The US, Canada, Mexico trade history is based on geographic convenience. We mainly sell and buy from each other because the logistics and shipping is easier. Other than a little increase in shipping, there is nothing stopping Canada from increasing trade with the EU etc.
