Tyron Woodley is out of the race to potentially headline UFC 230.

The UFC welterweight champion will undergo surgery on his right hand, which is estimated to put him on the sidelines anywhere from eight to 12 weeks.

MMA Fighting confirmed the news Friday following a report by ESPN.

Woodley’s injury is a result of his last outing, a successful title defense against Darren Till which took place earlier this month in the main event of UFC 228. Woodley, who’s held the UFC welterweight belt since 2016, suffered a dislocated thumb, tearing three ligaments.

With no main event currently booked for UFC 230, many speculated the 170-pound champ could headline the Madison Square Garden card against top contender Colby Covington. UFC 230 is currently just six weeks away, scheduled for Nov. 3. Dustin Poirier vs. Nate Diaz is the co-main event of the card.

When you hit as hard as Woodley does, your opponent suffers but so do your hands...

Poor Michael McDonald breaks his hand every fight it seems.

230 is only like 6 weeks away, they have plenty of time to find a headliner. Having adequate time to train is overrated anyway.
