Bizarre. Cutting off their nose to spite their face.
Once they show him the show will go on despite him it severely limits what he can or cant negotiate in the future. Basically daddy Dana had to show him who the real boss is. He tried and failed, it happens.

Soo much drama! So now Conor wants in again, I can't get my head around it though. McGregor and Diaz fight was scheduled with plenty of notice, both fighters would have known their contractual obligations well in advance and subsequently scheduled their training around any media obligations.

Both fighters are undoubtedly getting paid massive coin to fight, what's the problem? It's not like UFC are reinventing the wheel, asking fighters to complete media obligations - every fighter faces same conditions. I really like Conor McGregor but maybe he thinks he is bigger than the sport? I agree he can promote himself just fine...but he is acting like a brat. Like it or not, I don't think his fighting career will go to far without the UFC.

Ok, rant over haha.

If he comes back it'll be to fight the winner of Aldo vs. Edgar at MSG. This is a long game of chess and the money that lies ahead will make up for anything lost at UFC 200.

I'm I the only one that feels Conor wants none of Diaz? If Conor had won would he be not wanting to promote what ever fight he would have next. It seems like it's all a ruse not to fight Diaz and not make it seem like he's ducking him.

Or he realized his skill level may have plateud , and he wants to continue training the way he did to reach this level in the first place.

Also, if he woulda won, he never would've realized how far away he is from being the fighter he thought he was , the goat

Would it be that hard to stipulate in a contract how many media obligations are mandatory for a fight?
heard that.
for somebody who is all about telling the mma world how awesome he is at the business game, he goof'd that part. maybe if he thought less about his ppv numbers, and more about the fine print of contractual obligations it wouldn't be an issue.

from conor, "It is time to go back and live the life that got me this life. Sitting in a car on the way to some dump in Conneticut or somewhere, to speak to Tim and Suzie on the nobody gives a fuck morning show did not get me this life."
um, promotions are exactly how you get that life, big mouth. kinda proves the whole be careful what you wish for thing because it seems his mouth is writing checks his ass can't cash.

If he didn't have the skill to go with the talk, he wouldn't have this life...

The skill was gained from "the life that got me the life."

How? They could have just made UFC 200 big and MSG big, they are 4 months apart. I fail to see how robbing Peter to pay Paul makes sense in this situation.

He just cost himself a shitload of money. He will never get another chance to make the kind of money he would make off a marquee event like UFC 200.
Each fight he has been making more money. The 200 card without him on it isn't anything that would trigger a ton of buys...at least not as it stands right now.

I don't know if he is ducking Diaz, I don't think so honestly.
But as far as promotion goes.. he might not know what to say, so he rather avoids it. He can't use his usual stuff, and maybe would have to break character. Its a much better picture that he closed himself off and prepared 24/7 and lets his fists and feet speak. And if he wins, he can be the boasting dude again.

If only we could've had an embedded were they filmed him, on a mountain or in cave in iceland were he is playing touchbutt with his movement coach, were you can see in the background of that shot a smoking hot spring in the middle of a snowy field and gunnar nelson sitting on the edge of the said spring meditating.

They seem to have different math than we do, but they'll keep putting on events. 200 isn't the final UFC and after Friday's presser they're looking to get through 200 any way possible.

You mean Conor, right?

He is refusing to do a one week 3 stop press tour 12 weeks out from fight night, the result is he losses anywhere from 7-10 million*, he makes zero that night, UFC has a highly profitable evening without him.

*These figures are what is often reported as his take on PPV sales

The fight game is a star driven business, with profits rising or failing with the ability of big names to draw buys. As evidenced by the 2014 when ppv sales plummeted from lack of ppv sales. Sure, they can swap in another fight, but no one draws like McGregor. Anyone they swap in isn't a one for one exchange, and any fight they do swap in is lost from another ppv.

No one draws like McGregor until the next McGregor, I agree with the general sentiment here: The fight game is a star driven business - but it is pretty clear at this point the UFC is rock solid at succeeding as an org with/without any specific individual stars

Are they? They need to keep producing stars to succeed or they will lose ground to alternatives. If they have no stars, they don't draw eyeballs and would eventually lose their place in the sport to another promoter who is able to produce stars.

In this specific situation, no one is winning, but it is the UFC which pulled the plug on this fight over a few press conferences, and it will hurt them in their pocketbook.
