Dave's Song of the Day
Inka Dinka Doo – Jimmy Durante
Thursday song of the day: Today’s song was the signature song of a vaudeville star who moved on to movies, radio and television.
In 1933, Jimmy Durante and Ben Ryan wrote a nonsense song called
Inka Dinka Doo. While a few artists recorded it first, it was Durante’s own version recorded for the film
Palooka that became a big hit in 1934. The song would be associated with Durante for the rest of his career.
He performed it in another movie, 1944’s
Two Girls and a Sailor, and once again it was released as a single and sold well. Later Inka Dinka Doo would serve as the theme song to Durante’s 1950’s TV show.
