When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see

He remade a Solomon Burke tune and made it sound a little like a Ben E King tune.
Haha. Good version though. I dig it.
The original version by Burke is a great and classic tune. And now that you mention it, it does sort of sound Stand By Me-ish hah.

cool cover though, not sure I’ve ever heard anyone else do that song. No idea who this fella is, but he can sing like a mofo though.

Leo Kottke used to say this his singing voice “sounds like goose farts on a muggy day”, and that’s pretty much how I view my voice lol.

Leo spends more time talking and telling stories while tuning his guitar than he does actually singing during his shows, but it's still highly entertaining. His guitar playing definitely makes up for his vocal shortcomings.

Kind of cool to see him fuck up at 6:20 here when he was just talking about "don't let any guitar player tell you they don't need those dots on the fretboard". He 100% got crossed up because he had a capo on 4.

I think I could take over the vocals if anything was to ever happen to the singer. I’m a damn good shouter.

Dave's Song of the Day

Jackie Blue – Ozark Mountain Daredevils

Monday song of the day: Today’s song was inspired by a drug dealer.

In late 1973, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils were starting work on their second album, It’ll Shine When It Shines. Their drummer Larry Lee had an embryonic song based on a drug dealer he knew. Jackie Blue was mostly instrumental at that point with nonsense lyrics to take up space until something more coherent was written. When they were working up lyrics, the producer thought the song would work a lot better if Jackie was changed from a male drug dealer to an unfocused female. In the end the song ended up being about a woman who is never satisfied with the way things are, so she never commits to anything.

The album was released in October 1974, and Jackie Blue was released as a single in February 1975. It went on to be by far the biggest hit for The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

I live in upstate NY so we are only just recently seeing green lawns and having glimpses of warm weather. Each year at this time I start to listen to more “grillin and chillin” music. Just discovered a reggae-rock-jam band signed to Jack Johnson’s label, named ALO. Not going to blow your mind musically, but awesome tunes for the background while having a drink, having a toke, or all-around relaxing. Loving their vibe. A sampling:
