I finished DARK MATTER, which was unexpectedly great, and started reading this book Seveneves - Wikipedia but god DAMN, 300 pages in and it's just so dry and boring. Interesting concept the author just couldn't get any steam behind. So now I'm limping along to try and finish it.

Also reading Asimov's FOUNDATION novel which isn't fantastic, but it's supposed to be this big deal in Sci-Fi, so whatever.

Ok, Darqnezz @Darqnezz and Report @DrizztDoUrden, I haven't read any R.A. Salvatore. He's a little intimidating because he's written so much stuff and wouldn't know where to begin.
Which of his series would you say I should definitely read.

All are pretty good. Here's a good place to start.
The Icewind Dale Trilogy

1. The Crystal Shard
2. Streams of Silver
3. The Halfling's Gem
I agree with jay and darqnezz

Chronologically, the crystal shard is books 4-6, but he wrote them first. after them, read the dark elf trilogy (book 1-3)

I really enjoyed both those trilogies. fairly linear. Standard fantasy races of humans, elves, dwarves, goblins. fun books. especially book 5, streams of silver. i love that book

Very different fantasy then malazan, asoif, blade itself, etc... I consider it a light lift. the books are all like 100k words. so both trilogies together are probably shorter than the first 2 books of stormlight

Nah, I haven't started the crystal shard yet. Still making my way through The Blade Itself. The only R.A. Salvatore book I own right now is Gauntlgrym. So i'll have to go check out my local library and see if they've got it.

I'll likely finish the First Law trilogy before moving into the crystal shard.

Speaking of, I had a fellow fantasy nerd tell me that the best fantasy books they ever read were Morigu: The Desecration and its sequel Morigu: The Dead

Its an unfinished series though, with The Dead being written in 1990. So chances of it being finished are pretty slim. But by all accounts its a great couple of books. Nothing but high praise from my buddy and all of the amazon reviewers. Would definitely be worth a read if you ever come across a copy

finished "Name of the Wind" last week. this is the least ive read in years because i got on that binge of making westworld youtube videos

im doing "the wise man's fear" right now

i liked these books so far. very easy to follow. laid back...like sitting back at a campfire listening to a story. granted, thats basically what book 1 is... and so far the same for book 2

Took a break from "wise man's fear" last couple days and busted out LoD book 11. The prior quartet (7-10), was lame outside of book 10, so I'm pretty excited that salvatore turned it back around for book 11

Hoping all the books of this trilogy areally as good

Tone/mood: standard dfizzy PG-13ish but two or three graphic scenes would probably make this rated R u less they cut them (both in a fight and sex/rape).

Difficulty: easy as aways. Probably 110k words or so and the plot was fairly linear, with a bunch of characters we know well by this point. And some reallllly cool ones returning for the first time in awhile

Plot: alot of fun. I can't resist going right to the next book due to the cliffhanger at the end

I am admitting now that I have not read back through the thread but here are the authors I read on the regular.
William Gibson - go through all his books about once a year.
Alastair Reynolds - read them every couple of years.
Richard Morgan - Fuck, have you read Market Forces?

Just finished kingkiller book 2 "wise man's fear" by audiobook

Was a really fun ride. The ending wasn't anything that got be super amped for book 3 tho, so that was kind of a let down

I'm pumped for book 3 tho since I like the characters so much, but Who knows when it will come out...

Tried listening to some interviews by the author bUT he comes across as one of the arrogant nerds back in high school

I have only read up to the fourth book + a bunch of novellas, mainly because I was disappointed in the fourth one. But I should really pick up the series again.
Second Son was my favorite novella.

I was disappointed in a few also. To me though, the gems are worth sifting through them all.

Bout to finish a non high fantasy book. Again, by audible. I must've picked this up at some point as part of a "daily deal"

It's only 7 or 8 hours at 1x speed so I'm assuming it's probably like 50k words, 200 pages at most

It's a true story. Or else I've been trolled. It's totally wild. About prisoners of war during world War 1 through ww2.

One of the coolest parts to me was seeing a different side of German soldiers than u usually see in movies. They werent all assholes. Can't blame u if u feel that way since that's the way alot of history books and fiction paint them

I succumb to that same misjudgment and I should know better: in my childhood trio of buddies, one of my buddies grandfather's was a survivor of a concentration camp that the other ones day was a forced soldier. 2 generations later, best friends, and fathers were friends, too

Main point of movie was about attempts to escape the camp

U could probably read this in 1-3 sittings. It would be an easy read.

I really enjoyed the audiobook. Felt like I was listening to a documentary/campfire story

Shoulders collarbone tucked up. Hopefully not too many typos. I can't go back and relook. In pain again

Miss you by harlan coben. Outside of high fantasy, harlans thrillers are my go to. None of them are 9s or 10s, but everyone I've read a likes 7s or 8s. Easy reads. Fun ride with solid last couple chapters to tie it all up, usually with twists that u don't/can't expect

This is the first book I read by him. Gave it to my friend to borrow a couple years ago and he never gave it back. Since I only have one good arm right now, been audiobooking alot. Wasn't as good this time since I remembered high level the major plot points, but if u like mystery/thrilers, id recommend this book or really this author

He's known globally but happens to live in an expensive town near me. So I do get the extra benefit of getting a kick out of him describing towns I know, stereotypical people there, or burying bodies in places where I grew up mountain biking (not in this book)

Fight club

Really short audiobook, like 5.5 hours if I'm not mistaken, which means the book is probably something like 180 pages. Easily doable in a sitting or two

Probably would've been better if u read this before seeing the movie. The verbage is very trippy.

Listening too doesn't equal reading.
