Curious how accurate this is when it comes to guns. Any of you wanna chime in? Ignore the racist shit in the trash gun image category please...

Seems like mostly lower-end stuff. Most will be adequate, but I'd go with the higher-priced of these budget options for something more solid and reliable. The Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 shotguns, the SIG, Ruger, Smith and Wesson, FN, CZ handguns (skip the Rock Island. $440 isn't a cheap handgun but 1911s are more expensive than the average polymer frame 9mm). For the rifles, you can't go wrong with a Ruger 10-22 if you're looking for a .22. The S&W AR is a good starter AR-15. Used quality guns might be a good option instead of cheap new guns.

Prices are higher right now, and lots of stuff is sold out because of COVID and riots, so you're kind of stuck with what's available if you need to buy something soon. Since I have plenty of firearms, I'm not buying now. I'll wait until prices go back down and stock goes back up.

I have one of these for the same sort of role, the "hot weather shorts and t-shirt" pocket gun for when I'm not wearing clothes that can conceal a compact 9mm (or a winter coat for my full sized .45 ACP Glock)

Pistol it sounds like??
The best gun is the one that lets you hit the target. That's the actual answer.

The internet is full of several tropes and memes that have ebbed and flowed over the last few years.

One of those is that the g19 is God's own all around.

Then there's God's round the .45 caliber.

If you want to make half the people in this thread love you and half the people in this thread hate you just espouse vehemently that .45 caliber or 9mm is absolutely much better than the other.

Somewhere in this argument the compromisers went from being this red-headed stepchildren to actually getting themselves a seat at the table and .40 became fairly popular amongst a lot of gun guys, though I'll admit my bias that I still think it's a red-headed stepchild and Only got popular because ammo was in short supply so you could actually still find .40 caliber about 5 years ago when all the 9 and 45 was gone then.

For most newbies, you should go rent a few guns and feel things out. Despite Glocks being very popular I have a little girl hands and they don't feel great to me. It's part of the reason I own a Springfield. A gun is great on paper, it might not be great for the person.

Same with rounds. Things like .17 HMR are popular for their ideal ballistic characteristics. However in most places such rounds are relatively expensive and in short supply and have been for quite a while. That might be okay for one of your guns. But not for a first and only gun. I shoot my worse performing .22LR more often and have done so for a decade because of cost and access to ammo at all times no matter the supply and the demand. It's hard to explain just how short supply ammunition was around 2010 or so. It's still not great but here in Texas there is literally nothing on the shelves for months at a time. And when that kind of stuff happens what matters is what you're going to just keep shooting and not take a break for a year.
I'm not ashamed to admit this is like when I tried to learn German or Latin... and settled for French. Feels like I've got some homework.
So incoming noob questions:

So we've got .22cal , .44cal 40cal & 9mm.... why does a "9mm" even exist and why isn't it a caliber like the others?

Also, which is good for shooting people in the leg? Or buttocks? - If I decided to be merciful....

LMAO

Anyway, I own the Mossberg 500 7+1, and it reliably murders watermelons.

Also the Savage .308, which regularly snipes pesky hummingbirds.

Of this pic, those 2 I can attest are value-worthy firearms.

My 9 is better than those listed.
My .45 is better than those listed, and my 5.56 makes Rangers jelly.

That SKS looks dope af.
Want.

i've had a KelTech P3AT for years. It's easily the firearm I carry the most.
with a Desanti pocket holster it barely prints, and it looks like a wallet or cell phone in my front pocket

You do not pull a gun unless you're going to shoot it.

You do not shoot unless you need to kill. And that only exists under the threat of your own life or somebody else's.

If you have the situation in that you can choose to shoot somebody in the leg, sometimes you might be right but sometimes you will be wrong. Leg wounds can kill. It's not a substitution or alternative. As such you should only be shooting center mass in attempt to stop the lethal threat. Otherwise you are going to shoot in the wrong situations.
Sound scary? Sound like you wouldn't want to do that? That's the point. You only shoot because you have to.

It's okay to just go paper target shooting. It's okay to just go hunting.
But if you will use a gun for personal protection either at home or choosing to carry it (A whole increase conversation) you need to start with the above foundational theme. Not because shooting people with to kill them is good. But because most of the time you shouldn't be shooting.

You should also lock in the basic rules of gun safety:

#1 Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.

#2 Never let the muzzle cover anything that you are not willing to destroy.

#3 Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.

#4 Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it

Don't shoot anyone you don't need to kill.
People you shoot should hear your firearm before they see it.
A fair fight is the first tactical failure.

best advice I ever got on deploying a weapon was that you should have a the situational awareness to recognize that "someone is going to die here", and you deployed a weapon at "but not me".

an over under?

I have a savage from the early forties in 22lr/.410, somebody put a sweet old school peep site.
Short barrel but surprisingly accurate...breaks down tiny and could fit in a very small backpack

Ok that's all well and good but I'm sure you realize that's one time that is if broken in case where intimidation is the goal....

This I'm aware of. My gun friend repeats this mantra so often I think I have it memorized.

So how about them calibers?

Anybody that has spent a lot of time flying through Dallas Love Field is aware there was a Texas ranger statue there by the same title as the famous phrase... One riot one ranger.

Topically for these times, the statue is modeled after a Texas ranger who sympathized and in some cases passively helped the mobs of people trying to prevent reintegration of Texas schools after Brown versus board of education.

anyways. Obviously that famous slogan might take on a slightly different context these days as it did with that statue. This would be great marketing until somebody shoots somebody with it at a riot and people accuse sig of having ulterior motives beyond the historical phrase.
