its not your problem man. and that homeless guy is just looking to survive...save your street battles for someone that is an actual threat to you or your family.

dont be the trained pussy that kicks the shit out of homeless people man. I dont even need to tell you you are better than that because we all know, even you, that you are.

Hmmm yeh that would suck. I wonder why a bum would want to steal a Starbucks cup tho. I could think of much better things to steal
you dont know the mentality of homeless people. they can trade ANYTHING to anyone in their street peeps network. its pure insanity. I used to be friends with a guy who ended up homeless and i had to cut ties with him because it was nuts. and I have had 2 family members go homeless ON PURPOSE just to live life "the way it was intended" LOL. morons.

EDITED (for a quick story): said friend and I used to work at the Royal Canadian Legion as chefs (friend was a fantastic chef, best I have ever known and I consider myself a very good chef, but he just couldnt keep his life together, too much booze and eventually, hard drugs). for you USA folks, the RCL is where old timey war vets hang out. this guy used to steal bottles of rum / vodka and go downtown, trade it for coke or weed (mostly coke) and get fucked up. I have tagged along on these trips and it was SHADY and DANGEROUS. I just couldn't keep in touch with him after he ended up homeless because he robbed some old lady he was living with. fucking scumbag that I had all the hope in the world for turning his life around.

I wouldn't bother for a coffee cup or any physical item unless it's my own. If it's someone in danger that's about the only time I would even think about it. Even then i'm not looking to bring harm to myself to (maybe) help someone that got themselves in that situation first (like those people that love to talk shit and finally get confronted).

I have protected many many people over the years(it's my job) so I've become good at reading people and reading situations before they happen. It's not six sense it's body language. I can't really say what I would have done in this case because of not being there but let me give this advice to all of you. If you find yourself in a situation where you feel you need to act you do it with overwhelming force and end it as quickly as you can. You end the threat by whatever means you have to use. You also make damn sure you need to act for fear of being sued.

I think you did the right thing. When people are super desperate they will take crazy measure. They guy could have tried biting you or stabbed you if in his mind getting this tumbler was a life or death mission in his drugged out mind. Not sure what that guys head is at and its not worth it. The store camera probably got his face, call the cops and let them deal with it.

I was in line at a grocery store and this guy stole bread and a box of juice. The assistant told him to stopped and chased him only till the end of the store. He sprinted out and she didn't want to get hurt. I let it be too because a person is in a place of desperation if they need to feed themselves in that manner. ready to be arrested and have their face on camera to do this.

On another occasion at a dollar store this guy stole some stuff and then went outside. The girl at the cashier point at him in the window to her other female worker. The guy came back in and came running at the girl. A few of guys in line then walked forward to just put the guy in check like we will let the guy run with the fruit candy or whatever he stole but hes not going to punch the cashier with us just standing here. He was outnumbered and then walked back out. I think the cops came and got him outside.

Yes, I've did it for a little over ten yrs. I'm currently helping my Dad put with his business and might not go back to EP work. It's a touchy family situation right now so who knows(long story)
