Awesome! All things being equal I'd probably go with a KTM as well...easier to track down parts and accessories, at least here in the US.
Nothing as new as 2017, but have been on several 2008-2012 KTM's a 200exc and a 250xc.You even riden a modern 2 stroke enduro
How was the 200EXC? You're a big fella iirc though so might feel different to me. I'm leaning towards the 200 myself.
200 was nice, I think I was in the 200-215 lbs range at the time...I was running a KDX220 at the time...power was similar, but the chassis and suspension was light years ahead. If you're 200lbs or less a 200-250cc 2stroker is the sweet spot for technical riding imo. Hopefully I'll be back around 215-225lbs(low 240's now) range when I can get back on a trail bike...so I'd be fine with a 250 but would love to go 300 if I could. If you're good with the WR250 power wise, the 200 is right there.
Oh and don't forget to keep an eye out for a Husqvarna TE too, basically a rebadged KTM that on the used market you might can save a few bucks over it's KTM counterpart.
Ya the 200 should fit me good. I almost had a TM300 but I was a day late at the shop to try trading my CRFX in for it.
Once I'm back home I'll try to get some more GoPro footage of my new favorite trail on the WR.
Unrelated as it wasn't a dirt bike, but I didn't want to start a new thread. On the way home today this dude on a crotch-rocket passed me doing a 12 o'clock at about 100 mph. I was doing 70 in the middle lane and he passed me on the left like I was standing still. It was on a busy ass highway too. Fucking insane.
And I'm only using the cool speak because I learned what 12 o'clock meant on Vice Principals.

I'm not sure why they call it 12 o'clock. If 9 o'clock is horizontal, he was closer to 10:30 or 11.

She's a pig and not a 2 stroke, but I already love her. She's slow but torquey so she'll do.
It's an 06 and got her with 3800 miles, put about 500 more on her since picking her up a week and a half ago.
Those bikes get high praise for being super tough and full of torque as you mention. It looks to be damn near mint condition, still has the hairs on the tires and you could eat off that skid plate
So I remember you being super 2 stroke guy but after some rides can you see the appeal of the thumpers? Hows the D&G sound?

The Dg pipe sounds mean enough that I'm killing my mpg's trying to make her sing.
The torque is nice, and for any road miles it's perfect...very curious how she does on the trail.
I will own another 2 stroke soon for the more serious off road adventures.

Grew up on a 125. Now have a CRF450, though I'm a Yamaha guy. About to get a YZ250. Got a street bike at 16... GSXR 750. Owned 5 different ones, including an R6 track bike. Completed the AMA superbike school and had a few races. Had a shitty Suzuki Katana for trotting around town and hit a guy doing 70mph that pulled out in front of me after he drank AMD smoked crack. Sold the R6 and haven't rode one since. Still bout that knobby tire life though....

Very cool. I remember talking to you about riding in the past. My first Street bike was a 96 GSXR 750, then got a 98TL1000R, then went to what was my favourite ever which was a 04 CBR100RR then my last road bike was another GSXR750 but a 2001. I'm all about the dirt though now. With kids and super stiff penalties for speeding here I'm over the street thrills.
Same. Got my son a 50 to ride with us. I had the 2006 CBR1000 for a while...it was the year they had the white one. I wrecked it on the Tail of tie Dragon going up to Deals Gap lol
Those CBRs are so nice to ride. After 20+ years of Harley's I talked my dad into going sport bike. He got a TL as well in his late 50s then for his 60th bday he bought himself a 2010 Hayabusa lol. That thing is fucking awesome. A little big for me to ever buy one but it's smooth as eggs and power for days.

I had the video on my old laptop. I don't even know where it is any more. I've got a video doing a mile long wheelie on the interstate with a GSXR1000 that my friend used on his website a looooong time ago. It would take me a wipe to find it since I didn't have a channel back them and I can't remember what he had it under. Try youtubing GSXR1000 wheelie. The website was mid-south mini moto. Not sure if those would help lol.

Dude....a guy I worked with was in his late 50's and bought a ZX14 when they came out. That thing was nasty
Love it. I think it's so cool when you run up on another rider and roll together for an hour then when his helmet comes off he could be your dad age. You know those guys are so experienced and can handle almost anything.
I miss that. We would ride to a Sheetz in town and meet other riders that we didmt even know a ride all over south Virginia and NC. I'm sure the same happens here at home in Louisiana, but I can't justify getting another bike. If I did, it would be for the track and I'm so far gone from all the technology updates since I last rode that it would take me a while to even get the idea going for a good build.
I've never ridden a track, too bad really. But I do agree on not being able to justify another bike. I'm 36 and feel like so many idiots are on the road and the risk vs reward isn't worth it anymore. I love hitting the dirt and doing whatever the fuck I want, that freedom is wonderful.
Track days are the tits. We started in the lowest group and after the superbike school we moved up to the top group and had a few races. Doing 100mph in a turn with your elbow touching the berm (or rumble strip to some) is a feeling that can't be recreated anywhere else

We'd set up a camcorder at the apex of 270° onramps on the highway and tape is trying to get as close to this as possible. I'd have scuff marks on the outside of my skate shoes and zero chicken scratches (that's what we called the line of no wearing on tires) to show off. Touching an elbow is a whole other level. I wish we had a stronger race culture up here but we just don't. We'd have to rent time time in big groups at the end of runways to practice wheelies and anything else. Still a blast.
