and BJ Penn's striking is surely some of the most overrated ever? love BJ but come on....

BJ didnt have to throw alot of kicks but see what happened to Diego Sanchez when he did. I would argue he had some of the best kicks in the division based on effectiveness.

lol Sanchez's gameplan was to duck forward and grab him ..... and it still took BJ 5 rounds to land a headkick

plus the stoppage was called by the doctor

I'm sure he was a decent kicker, but Aldo loved soccer and is still pretty damn good at it, so I think it's much more likely that Aldo was showing BJ how to kick opponents with serious force than vice versa

I love that fight and I'm still a BJ Penn fan, never rooted against him even vs Sanchez (who I also like a lot)

but in fairness, no matter what BJ has done in the past, have you ever seen him tenderize an opponents leg?

BJ's biggest strength was his iron chin and rock solid dome, like a mini Fujita. Guy would drop his hands and take shots to rest and recover, and start swinging fresh in return. I remember many fights him taking a guys biggest shot after putting his hands down and asking for it. Legend.

Makes me worry about him continuing to fight, though.
