I did the preview yesterday. Swapped back to 7 after 5 minutes. Lost my win 7 key in the process, had to get a new one. Not going to 10 at all. Too tablet looking for me
its one of the reasons holding me back from Win 10 as well. I felt 8 was way too tablet looking. From the 10 screenshots, i cant help but think its 8 with a few more bells and whistles.

I'll stick with 7 for the time being.

I have one pc running windows 7...i hate that pc. The current version of windows just runs much smoother and lighter, even on computers with lower specs.

Now I just have to wait for this fuckn update so I can leave 7 in the dust.

8 does everything 7 does and more....and faster. And its all synced across your pc's. And youre able to run lightweight apps on low powered HTPCs. And etc, etc. Theres nothing 7 does that 8 cant do, so why move backwards?

10 seems more coherent than 8, so im excited to make the switch. Now if the fuckn thing would just download...

Fair enough points.

The metro UI was the reason I told all my friends and family to avoid Windows 8, especially if they expected to have me be their personal computer repair man. I consider myself to be a quick study when it comes to navigating a user interface, but Windows 8 was just a complete clusterfuck. My biggest pet peave was that Microsoft apps launched in full screen with no indication of how to exit them.

I'm just a few hours into using Windows 10 and I'm very impressed. Full screen apps are gone. Full screen start menu is gone. Everything seems to be fairly customizable. It's basically exactly what Windows 8 should have been. Microsoft really did themselves a disservice by making Window 8 a tablet-first OS.

I did 1 remote upgrade of windows 10 on my pc at home from work and it went flawlessly. My work one was a pain in the ass and I finally got everything squared away and upgraded tonight working remotely from home. And now I'm in the middle of doing my father's 8 to 10 upgrade remotely from my house. I'm really impressed at how seamless the actual upgrade process is and it's able to be done remotely and reconnect and finish the setup, I'm impressed so far.

Enjoy the viruses, I'll stick with FreeBSD (OSX).

This is also my experience. Windows 10 is the hybrid OS 8 never became. Quick switch between tablet mode or not on metro apps is great. With three inputs (screen, touchpad, mouse) my laptop feels very natural interacting with all three.

Lmao. Fucking shit. I just imagined the dial up modem sound. Not sure how to spell it.
Those were the good ol' days. I remember the transition from AOL dial-up to local broadband being such a foreign concept. Have internet connectivity at the OS-level was so strange compared to having to use the AOL software for everything.

Came here to post the botnet infographic. Windows 10 is incredibly invasive.

Microsoft also stole money from its Age of Empires Online userbase and revoked access to the game. Wouldn't even release an offline version for its fans, which would have cost next to nothing.

I tried to voice my displeasure, politely, and never got so much as a response. I'm going with Mint for my next upgrade.

I agree that their EULA is disconcerting, but there are already guides available to disable most of those features and to blacklist certain Microsoft servers. I've also started migrating over to Xubuntu as my daily driver, but unfortunately I'm stuck using Windows for some work software. Eventually I'll get around to playing with WINE and try to make the full transition.

Yeah, this is pretty much my situation and plan.

And true, some features can be disabled but Microsoft itself tells you it will turn them back on automatically after a while (at least for that one in the picture).

I'm really just upset that they can't keep a few servers running for a p2win game when Warcraft 3 servers are still going for free, what, over a decade after release? And that they don't seem to care about privacy.

I'm sure you can turn them off permanently in the registry.just a disclaimer I'm guessing

Its window defender, which has for a long time been a very decent piece of software. They finally include and update it and don't let Grandma kick it off accidentally, then her grandson posts all over the internet how shitty Windows is for getting viruses all the time. There's a greater conversation to be had I guess on why MS chooses certain underlying architecture, but that graphic is just scare tactics if you aren't going to add all the existing products that do the same thing. Key logger? come now.

If you hate chrome browser and android, you hate windows 10.

But a huge number of people use Chrome and this is the same sampling of data to predict search results, stop you from going to known spam sites, and provide better results from Cortana (just like OK Google).

MS has used this same info in the lat 2 years to take down botnet and spam networks by targeting where the PCs are getting infected.

Honestly, none of this seems nefarious if we didn't have the NSA hacking into the information. But my GPS activated android phone that is always with me is thread number one if Im going to start coming off the grid.

Just a side note for anyone with an Nvidia gpu, especially with multimonitor setups. You may run into issues updating to the new drivers for Windows 10 via windows update. If you do, go to "c:\windows\softwaredistribution\downloads" and delete the contents of the folder. Reboot. Check for updates, if it fails just retry, and then it will download and install the proper drivers
