Who can explain to me the way to set-up my brand new Smart Tv to watch what`s on my computer?

I already bought a HDMI cable and ran it to the HDMI3 input port.I put my Tv on HDMI3 and it says check the power of the external device & make sure that the cables are connected properly.

Please someone help.

I`ll stop posting for a week or I`ll post more content for a straight week.

Your call.

Good to see ya

I have no input on Smart TVs, I like the old ones and don't want the internet talking to my Tv.

Sounds like your external device is not sending input, or the cord/format isn't proper.
What are you sending thru this HDMI cable? What is the source?

Losing lots of weight actually.Making a desperate attempt at getting back into my old clothes.I have currently lost 59 pounds on my way to 100.

Raiders are shit so, I`m not really on the internet as much as I used to be.

I see your Broncos made the cut to the playoffs.

What`s happening with you?

*Thanks for the kind remarks & same to you!

Make sure HDMI3 isn't an ARC port, that's expecting audio, and it's usually a higher port. Swap cables, see if it works if you plug it into HDMI1.

When we hooked up an old visio to the laptop as a second screen the laptop display had to be tweaked to support a second screen.

Thats where I would start
control panel>display
It wasn't hard to figure out.

Typically, monitors (including TV's) are plug & play, but do what MountainMedic @MountainMedic said just in case. Otherwise given the message you posted, is your TV plugged in? Is it on? I know you posted you connected the cable and switched the TV to that HDMI port, but LOL I gotta ask.

You could post more info like which version of the OS you are using on both your laptop and TV which would be found in the system information. If you can't find that, posting the model of laptop and TV would help. Posting a photos of your TV's HDMI ports showing the labels along with a photo of changing the HDMI port on the TV and the error message you are getting could also help. Or just google the error message along with your OS versions and/or models of your laptop and TV might help you out.

This is the way. You can probably just type in "display" in the little search box on your windows toolbar and "duplicate or extend a display" will appear. If it doesn't a link to your display should appear. Under Multiple displays you may have to click detect or a drop-down menu might already have your options. Select how you want it to be presented and click apply.

Quick question. Is the content being streamed to the TV 4k? If you attempt to pass a 4k/120Hz signal you'll need an HDMI 2.1 cable. The high bandwidth cables (2.0 & 2.1) should also be kept shorter than 10-15' as well. If you attempt to pass a 4K signal through an HDMI cable below HDMI 2.0 the signal will not pass at all on several devices (you MIGHT be able to get one of the later HDMI 1.4 cables to pass a signal on some devices but not all) and will just get a blank screen or a message that the device is not connected.

Thanks guys. You all have been helpful.

I`m pretty sure that it`s an LG 65in HDTV.I`m pretty sure that it`s 4K also, but not positive. We threw that damn big box away already.

HDMI cable is 5ft long (don`t know what I`m running through it)

I don`t know if this helps but....The HDMI cable is adapted to be a USB cable on my PC.It`s a PC and not a laptop.

I believe that the HDMI 1 slot/port is for regular Tv.

Sorry for the late response.I hit the bed awful early last night.

try doing what MountainMedic @MountainMedic suggested going through the display settings for an external device first, I think that is the issue, if not then follow rmenergy @rmenergy suggestions.

The hdmi adapter could be an issue as well

The cable might not be good, the graphics card might not be able to send the signal, the TV sounds like it’s new enough.

Have you tried playing a DVD player or something else through the cable to confirm that it is good?

With the TV connected to the PC, try searching through display options (on your PC) for monitors and see what comes up as connected to your PC. If the new TV doesn’t show, it’s not being recognized.

Dunno which version of Windows you're using, and I haven't used Windows in a very long time, but I would recommend looking for your TV using Device Manager. See here. You may need to update a driver.
