^ one scenario I've heard suggested is some kind of bold move to finally end/shift from the Age of Oil dependency...

Remember, the bait to nab all those Princes and Ministers was a conference for a proposed Clean Energy/AI city (NEOM). If they indeed have such technology ready to invest and put into production, it's ironic that it would come from a major head of the OPEC conglomerates

However the cards are played, our entire world economy is based on the power of the PetroDollar via Saudi Oil. Any major shifting of power in this area is either just internal scrambling for power, or there are some major world changes coming. Considering the recent (almost simultaneous) seizing of Jerusalem, and Trump's full support of both Bibi and House of Saud, I would suspect its the latter.

My guess is that Trump has made a deal of sorts that Saudi can make these moves. It empowers them against Iran, allows the continued Yemen war, etc. which we want anyways.
