I was in a Starbucks lineup a few days ago when two women in front of me broke into a pretty lengthy racist rant.

They were talking about Trump and how awful he was, but then one said "white people shouldn't be allowed to be in control of anything anymore" and it devolved into quotes such as "white people are ruining the world", "white men are the cause of 99% of the world's problems", "white men will destroy the planet with climate change and nuclear war", etc.

I was pretty sickened but I didn't say anything. What would you have done in my situation? And how do you typically react when you witness racism in person?

I & family have been living this my entire life, it's cancerous, particularly if you let it eat you.
As a youngster, targeted and jumped, beaten, mocked, scorned, etc.
The perfect quote came from a black guy experiencing the same thing from whites/cops during the Detroit riots, "It puts hate into your heart".
To cope with it properly you have to strive to rise above it always; it's a problem primarily of the younger or less enlightened, older folks usually grow out of it.
And that's a shame as respect for elders is societally under attack.
I still let it get to me as I see my children under attack from it's influence, now from the media.
But if you don't see the big picture and relay it to your children and beyond, you become a cog and the cycle continues.

I'd be kicked out of that starbucks

I never really encounter it, I work from home so my main social time is at the gym everyday. everyone will spot everyone or help anybody who asks, nobody gives a shit what race anyone is.

there is one lebo at the gym, he gives a fish waddle handshake that nobody can make sense of. he's 50 plus & pushes a heavy sled around with us after leg day & then rides a bike home in negative weather with ankle weights on, he's kind of a folk hero in there

hite men are the cause of 99% of the world's problems", "white men will destroy the planet with climate change and nuclear war", etc.

This is actually what some of my liberal friends say and some are white. And they are still my friends :)

I've experienced a lot of bias in my life being of mixed racial ancestry. When I was a kid, I was ridiculed by black kids at church of all places, called the "stupid little white boy," etc.

Then as an adult, I ended up marrying a white woman whose parents told her in no uncertain terms "that nigger is never going to be accepted in this house." It was astonishing really. There was nothing I could do. Eventually, I met her mom and she wouldn't even look at me. Her sister was there too and talked as if I wasn't even there. It was like I was just a ghost and everyone refused to acknowledge my presence. This took a long time to overcome, but eventually we did. Her family eventually realized how ignorant they were being as they slowly got to know me and it changed them on a fundamental level, but it was one of the hardest things I had to go through.

Race isn't real, but racism and bias is real af and sucks some of the life out of you.

Jeez, when will white men catch a break in society?
We need to be their allies and help them succeed and achieve equality. The oppression is disgusting.

What's funny is when you meet racist white people who are friends of friends and they assume that just because there are no minorities around they can throw out the n-word and everyone will just nod their heads.

Makes for some pretty awkward silence.

We should change the word racism, into tribalism, and acknowledge we will always judge someone who is different. And that multiculturalism will never be without problems. It's against our nature.

I find the offenders are usually Yankees who have migrated (invaded) here.

I think one of the saddest things is people who apologize for racists/racism. People see racism against white people and say "lol who cares, there's more racism against other races so racism against whites is A-OK". Why should hate be okay against one group simply because they don't experience as much hate?

In Africa, everyone is black (at least from what I've read and seen in movies), so there can't be that much racism against blacks. So does that mean because black people who live in Africa don't experience much racism, I can fly over there and start dropping N-bombs and it'll be acceptable? I imagine I'd be impaled by a spear or blow dart pretty quick.

meh it is just something I have to deal with maybe a bit more in the MAGA era.

most of the people who are actually racist are pretty cowardly they will call me a spic",beaner or wetback from a moving car or from far away.

I also had a meth head call me a wetback recently.

They'd actually discriminate between shades, and even kill albinos.

The sooner we realize it's a universal thing, the better. Anybody can be a racist, an ashole, inconsiderate, a bully, anybody. Regardless of what you look like. Racism is your own fear and anger while at the same time it's pointed at you at times. We then run to our own kind and start the "I am on this team" game. It's a tool used by not only our government but also the media. You eliminate this by make individual choices not to have racism (tribalism) in your life, that also means, inside yourself. Talk to other people as if you talk to yourself in the mirror, relate, respect, and communicate!
