If you asked Granny to name one specific thing that is true of the Chinese that is not true of all Asians.....

Please, anyone share a possible answer.

I get what you are saying, that this granny dislikes all Asians not just Chinese but that wasn't my point. Her basis of Asian and why she dislikes things they do is based on the Chinese.

Also I didn't say anything because she's entitled to her opinion. It's not because I want to make a big deal about it but I wanted to share what racism is like for Asians as That's what this thread is intended for.

However people decided to argue with me if I should be offended or not and what she meant by calling me Chinese. Just trying to share what happens. I don't get racism much tbh, thought I would share the experience just because the thread was on first page and it happened recently.

I'm saying her racism isn't truly based on the Chinese. She doesn't even know the difference.

No, you pointed out how disgusted you were to being called Chinese.

You don't get racism? Oh, it's disgusting to be lumped in with Chinese!

I'm not arguing. And I actually enjoyed your input in this thread. It has certainly been an eye opener for me.

What I took from this is that you think I shouldn't be offended at being called Chinese and that old ladies should be free to tell all asian people they are straight from China because your sister in law is cool.

Your reading comprehension has been consistently terrible.

That's true. I am very sorry if i am saying something wrong or not getting it.

Did you see the first video I posted of the Taiwanese girl who complained about being called Chinese? At the very end there is a blooper where her boyfriend is explaining what wake up and smells the coffee mean. That's kind of like a regular occurance with me. I don't always understand or express myself well and I'm sure that gets me alot of ire here.

Hopefully I expressed my point well enough and It's not wholey my unreasonable.

It's not just that she thought I was chinese. It was the motive behind calling me that. Whatever negative perceptions she had about Chinese was what she meant by calling me Chinese.

I can't really explain any better but yes we do get upset to be called Chinese. It's not that they're disgusting It's the affiliation of Chinese with many negative stereotypes. If they were like hey are you Chinese? It would not be offensive, but straight from China meant something bad! I knew it right away. I didn't ask Bernice whatchu talkin aboutfoo but i knew it was bad the way her friend replied "yep".

No it doesn't. You're so deep down into your Chinese hatred and examining all these bizarre nuanced differences to find grounds of superiority, that you don't understand to old white ladies all Asians are Chinese.

Why?

Because it's an easier word to say and it's the biggest East Asian country.

It doesn't go any deeper than that.

but straight from China meant something bad! I
Yeah no doubt. It had nothing to do with China. She would say the same thing about all Asians.

She essentially said, probably fresh from Asia.

It was a non-western judgment.

How has it taken so many pages to understand this?

Two old random white ladies judging a young Asian girl has zero to do with their deep understanding a various cultural norms across East Asia. I just am completely speechless that you would jump to that misunderstanding.

The first part about all Asians being Chinese is correct but their reference or knowledge about Asian people tend to be based off Chinese culture and people stereotypes because yes China is the biggest Asian country with most history with Westerners. Literally most old white grannies know nothing about Korea or other neighbouring Asian countries. They think we must be exactly like Chinese.

I posted two videos a Taiwanese girl and Filipino and they were both upset about being called Chinese. The thing all three of us have in common is we are not Asian American and we have a belief about why we are being called Chinese and what this means.

If we are allowed to continue talking about it, I would love for you to be able to change my mind.

No it doesn't.

Your Chinese kimchi stinks.

Your Korean Chinese Moon language is an afront to their ears.

You smell funny.

Your Korean Chinese store owners are taking all the jobs.

Literally it has nothing to do with their understanding of China. They don't read about China. They've never been to China. They don't care about China. The last time they actually had an interaction with China was the cheap shit they bought that fell apart.

It's literally just a placeholder word.

They don't like you because you're not Western.

I would never get this entrenched against a group of Koreans about a Korean subject.

Why on Earth are you fighting white people telling you what their old white grandmothers actually think?

Seriously just take a breath and realize everybody is telling you the same thing.

Literally nobody, especially two old white ladies, give two shits about your judgment of Chinese and fear of being mistaken for the negative connotations only known inside of East Asian subcultures.

This is great and I can see where you're coming from, this is why I post here, to see the other point of view but I don't think I'm entirely wrong either in that alot of negative stereotypes about Asians by Westerners tended to come from assumptions and interactions with the Chinese over other Asians.

In Africa they break it down into sub segments in which to hate the "other groups"
Everyone does this except new worlders. Mix6APlix @Mix6APlix threw a fit for me not considering him a white guy. If you're from anywhere south of Denmark you're not white. I know you Americans do it differently, hell. I have a friend who called shots for PEN1 and he's not white.
