For the first time in the history of The Ultimate Fighter, two current champions, in two different weight classes, will serve as head coaches.

The UFC has tapped heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier as the next head coaches of the reality show, the UFC announced Friday. Filming is scheduled to commence next week.

Following the conclusion of the show, the duo are scheduled to fight at UFC 226 on July 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for Miocic’s heavyweight title. Should he win, Cormier would become just the second fighter in UFC history to be a champion in two different weight classes at the same time, and the fifth fighter in total to be a two-division UFC champion....

chael called this a couple days ago. as did many of us. its the same reason i figured bisping.gsp would happen back in may. and conor vs nate 3 is inevitable. bc there are some "rumors" that just make too much sense from a business/personal perspective

Plus, I'm pretty sure DC has coached tuf before on someone else's team. I can't remember the season now. But he knows what it's like, I think.

Nice I wanna see DC big boy again....he was arguably even more dominant at 230-240

his hands had great power and he is much quicker than HWs....even stipe who is rather quick himself

Wow I really didn't think DC would do it with Cain potentially coming back
My guess is if DC wins, he retires as the double champ
Stipe wins, Cain will get the next shot and they can book it as Cain going for revenge for DC

love this matchup

we are so close he prefers if I call him dan

Stipe is better IMO, but at that time Bigfoot was Giant and TRT max, was 16-2 at the time and just beat the Sweater...he would have a shot against any current UFC HW including stipe

Barnett was on a 8 fight win streak at HW and it was his only loss in 11 fights...was on beastmode for awhile there and took out a bunch of top HWs of that time

Stipe is much better than those dc beat at hw but it helps dc that stipe isn't a massive hw

Even if DC doesn't put on crazy weight, he'll only be outweighed by 25lbs or so

Im just wondering what made DC take this fight now when Cains back in training. Could it be that he got info on how long the Jones suspension would be? Or is it that he knows that Gustafsson is next in line at LHW and hes not up for a 5 round war with him again? ( dont take that part to serious :D). Or was it that he saw an opportunity to become a 2 division champ thats enticing him?
Or was that last weightcut so brutal that he thought hell nah im not doing that once more!

Stipe currently wins this fight... What DC did years back in Strikeforce was admirable, but he's pushing 40, has taken some beatings, and looks to be losing a step or two. Just because he beat a (if you're being honest) outclassed, not really ready for a title fight Volkan, doesn't make him a demigod.

I applaud his heart and grit, but I just think his time is passing, and the UFC wants to get as much out of him for their financial gain as possible. Otherwise, have him fight Gustafsson again.... To be honest, I'd rather see Gus against Stipe.

I imagine the decision had more to do with the opportunity to coach tuf than to fight Stipe, but Stipe being the other coach is certainly attractive since they're already friendly.

In addition to being paid without fighting, coaching tuf means possibly being able to show aka in a more positive light, which seems to be on DC's mind lately, especially with Rockhold leaving.
