I found out through a tip & researched it further that Amazon tested broadcasting UFC 221 on its app/platforms on Saturday night.

It was not widespread & rumored to be a Beta test invitation only.

This might be a sign that Fight Pass to Amazon (as Meltzer reported) is a strong possibility & part of UFC's changes in product distribution.

I posted this on SD last Thursday:

I hinted toward this on Monday
But in addition to the US TV rights, WME has received offer from YT & Amazon to buy FP.
There have been discussion of both selling the catalog outright or just the broadcast right for X amount of years.
Also the bid from NBC supposedly includes FP & that is a reason Fox upped their bid to $250m per (from the $100-120m per)

Now what the offer(s) include is the key. Do they include bigger/better cards that take away from UFC PPV profits?
That is an unknown variable.

But don't be shocked if FP winds up elsewhere very soon.

________

Now personally, this makes me wonder how long WME cares to be in the MMA game.
When they spearheaded the purchase, they said that ownership of content was a big interest to them.
Since UFC went up in value while interest & PPV/TV are down, I would not be shocked if WME/Investors sell & walk away with billions or they do an IPO & then sell out.
I think the declining interest in MMA has made the owners look at things differently & think getting out while profits are breaking records might be the way to go.

I think this was planned two years ago.
I think all kinds of neat little corporate things have and will continue to happen since the "monopoly" lawsuit.

So how does Amazon streaming service work? Same as like PS Vue, Sling, Direct, etc?

Any idea on who would be potential buyers?

Just to clarify:
1. That is me thinking that WME might be open to it (or at least an IPO), not that they are putting it up for sale.
2. No idea. I would not have guessed most that bid in the same range WME did 2 years ago.

If it's the Amazon video platform it's just an app like Netflix. If you have prime, some rotating content is free and has a little prime logo in the corner. It also has trailers you can watch for a lot of movies, which is cool.

It gives you the option to buy things through the app. You have to set a pin, and then it charges to your default credit card on your Amazon account.

Closer to Netflix
They have Amazon Prime & a lot of titles are included in that. I would guess UFC library would be.
If live FP cards are included or a special tier, I have no idea

IF they go to AMZ

Ah ok. Hell, we may already have it and I'm just not aware. My wife is a Prime member.

If she's a prime member, you should set it up and take advantage of all the free content. It's quality stuff, with lots of stuff for kids. They also have a bunch of good original stuff, like the new JCVD show.

Of course, Blaze and the Monster Machines is NOT free, but that's the fault of my karma, not yours, so I'm sorry about that.

They also have the Top Gear spinoff called Grand Tour. Pretty much the same show if you enjoyed TG.

Amazon is taking over the world.
I voted against the person who wanted to bring an Amazon warehouse near me. They said it would bring lots of jobs, but when a local economy is centered on one business, I feel it's too vulnerable. Plus, they can keep their delivery drones to themselves. I don't want them flying over my house all the time, whenever they do whatever probably nasty political thing they'll do to get the FAA to approve them. But I do like the Amazon Video service.

I'd be very scared if I saw one of those delivery drones flying around, I'd probably shoot it down with a pellet gun and wherever it lands, all the kids are going to come and rat-fuck the whole package. Given those potential scenarios, I think they still have long ways to go before drones come around. :D

I like the Video Service too, music is also good.

I wonder if Amazon would price the old content a la carte or if they'd keep the current subscription model in place. I suspect if they do it as a subchannel, I'm going to be glad I kept my old Pride VHS tapes.

Where the hell was my invite?

I have Amazon Prime, got rid of my cable and mainly watch what they offer on their streaming service video side.

If UFC can land a deal with Amazon..it would be huge and a great move for the UFC.

Been watching every season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Amazon n Video is loaded with great shows, I'm amazed at how many people have Prime and don't even use it.

on your thoughts Wild. this is what i said from the beginning. the new owners arent in the MMA game. they are in the money making game.

they are coming in to renegotiate new deals, meet their financial objectives, collect their bonuses, and flip the company. the will be gone in a couple of years. I've echoed this many times. why do you think everything they are doing in short sighted? it's not that they cant build contenders. its just that they probably see greater short terms gains by pocketing anything they can and let the UFC brand carry the company as much as possible.

Heck yeah. I have no other way to watch a lot of that old grappling. And don't front. You know you're still rocking betamax.
Unfortunately I don’t have a vcr. I’m half tempted to go buy one as I have Dirty Debutantes volumes 1-6 that I kept from back in the day.....can’t watch them and it’s killing me, I keep looking at the back cover for screenshots and that’s all I get out of them
