Cowboy has the most wins and finishes in UFC history (Tied) was a former title challenger in the WEC and Top 5 in 2 weight classes in the UFC.
Does his resume put him into the HOF talks when he retires....one can only assume he'll have set and hold both the most wins and most finishes record by himself when he finally hangs them up

I don’t know........you almost need to have picked up one of the readily available interim belts or a real title (work with me on this)......
He had chances and lost......so, no

You're god damn right Cowboy belongs in the UFC hall of fame!!

The 20 wins and all those finishes means a whole helluva lot, despite never winning a title. Plus, Cerrone embodies the fighting spirit: always willing to step up, saved quite a few cards by accepting late match-ups against some damn good opponents, and you know he is going to throw down EVERY time he climbs into the cage.

If Stephan f'n Bonnar is in the UFC Hall of Fame, then Cowboy Cerrone damn sure better be in.

What about Faber then? Does his WEC title count?

It should. When WEC merged into the UFC it was the same group of guys, all it was was WEC guys fighting now in the UFC, it's not like it was a seperate roster, 100% faber is a Hall of Famers.

Dude is arguably the most impactful fighter ever south of 155 lbs. He impacted more of MMA than migule Torres and Kid did, and ditto with Jens Pulver. Faber is one of the biggest reasons the UFC even watned to merge those lil guys, it was becuase of him and his charisma, Hall of Famer easily for me.

As far as Cerrone, another 100% hall of famer. You don't just luck into all these wins and all these finishes. Great fighter.

My vote is yes for Cowboy. Titles don’t mean all that much anymore anyway. He has always been willing to fight whenever, wherever, and whomever is offered. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he doesn’t, but he is always ready to fight and always entertains the fans.

Everyone gets in the Hall of Fame!!!

Guy has never been champ. Not surprising to see Stephan Bonnar brought up, but there is no reason to be held hostage to shit precedents.

Bonnar is not a hof er, but Cerrone is.

Not because he is cool, but what he has done in the cage

He is tied for 1st in alltime win in the ufc

When you add his wec wins no one else is close I think besides Wandy

A ton of wins by finish

Good everywhere

He lots of wins over top 15 guys, at different weightclasses

How could anyone say he is not a hof?

Come on son

Cerrone's close. I obviously don't think him being in the HoF is absurd for the reasons you mention. But I wouldn't put him in my Hall of Fame - you need to have been champ (or been recognized as the best in your weight class at some point) in one of the top organisations as a minimum for me.

I mean, this discussion was initiated after Cerrone lost 3 fights in a row and then beat Yancy Medeiros - it's hardly a crowning achievement that should kick off discussions like these.

What kicked it off was the realization that Cerrone now owns a share of the record for most wins and finishes and will no doubt break both before his career is over

Sheepdog @lordofthepies

Actually, I would have had Cerrone as a hall of famer even if he retired 2 years ago.

I think there is different criteria. Typcailly champs get in and they should, not every champ but strong champs, But what Cerrone is doing is hof worthy.

I will use the Brian Mitchell analogy from football. Brian Mitchell was never the best, not even top 5 at his position at any time. He was a jack of all trades, great punt and kick returner, great 3rd down back. The guy could play RB, WR, and even QB in pinches. He was a great blocker, catcher, tough runner. Great tackler on special teams. When he retired he was no.1 in the history of the NFL in total yards, he is not in the hall of fame but to me that is hall of fame worthy.

How many guys at that time could make that claim? Only 1 him. He should be in the football hall of fame. How many guys can claim to be no.1 or tied no.1 in alltime ufc wins? All of 1 guy. That is special

So Matt Serra wasn't a legit champion?
I never said that....I had champion in " " marks for GDR because I don't consider her a real champion.....Serra won the belt fair and square but I think most people can say with a great amount of certainty that Serra loses to GSP 99 times out of a 100.....I'm not discounting his title but more pointing out that being a champion shouldn't be an automatic induction into the HOF

So people who won the belt are not really a champ unless they defended it? No wonder we have interim belts :) No wonder they ran with those belts. It doesn't matter how many times GSP beats Serra, he still did what very very few could do. Look at GSP's reign and that should tell you Serra was every bit of a champ as any of them.

If you won a fight that resulted in a belt, you are the champ, period. Now if you just had your belt given to you, that is another story. In a time we have countless interim belts, lets at least acknowledge the real belts. Cyborg could've been there to get that belt but she was too big, so that is on her. That fight took place to safe that one woman division for Cyborg.

I think it's about time Weidman's right nut @Weidman's right nut confesses that the real reason he started this thread was because his hero is morphing into Cowboy Cerrone...

:grinning:

Seriously, Cowboy called out Khabib after beating Meideros. I doubt Cerrone gets that fight and I think it would be bad news for him if he did, but once again it speaks to Cowboy's competitive nature and his eagerness to take on all comers, even the killers.
