Does Conor become a star without Dana White and the UFC?

Essentially, the question is: "Would Conor have become a star without Dana?"

It's an interesting topic brought to light by Dana's deposition in the anti-trust lawsuit that the UFC is facing.
Here's part of Dana's statement:

“Four years ago, Conor McGregor was available to everybody,” White said in the deposition (h/t MMAMania). “Bellator, ONE FC, UFC, everybody out there. Do you know who went out- he was- he was 7 and 2, Okay? Guy’s record was 7 and 2. There’s a zillion of them, right? I went out and got Conor McGregor. I saw him, I liked his personality, and I turned him into a star, one of the biggest stars on earth..."

No matter how much hype and promotion you put behind a guy you cant get him to knock out poirier aldo mendes alvarez.

Plus i was a conor fan before he joined the ufc

conor did get a promotional push but without the ability to fight he would be at the sage nothcutt level .the rest is all conor. dana as usual is trying to suck his own dick

UFC only promotes people who already draw. They will not take the risk. You see that with Brock, Ronda, Conor, etc, they were popular long before UFC started putting effort andf money into them.

Everyone needs a platform. If Connor hadnnt signed for the UFC the only thing he would be famous for is not fighting in the UFC. In my humble opinion.

He'd have a lot more haters too trying to discredit him. He hit the jackpot during his run, there has literally never been a better time nor place for any MMA fighter in history. The best part is he's proved his talent too, there's no reason to dislike the chap as far as I'm concerned. Went there, honed his craft, worked the crowd, made more than anyone else, fought for a boxing world title and got a custom suit that says fuck you.

And he still has years to offer should he choose. That's pretty impressive imo

i only put "not at this level" because Dana played a big part letting Conor fight Floyd.

But Conor would still be a champ, just not such a 'sports' personality.

He wouldnt have been quite as famous if he had immediately pissed off Dana, but he didnt. The UFC is without doubt his platform, without it he struggles to make it as big. However I think it is nothing to do with Dana himself rather the stage on which the UFC puts him.

To be truthful, that was said in a scrum & used in a deposition..
Slight difference but he didn't say it under oath or anything

Almost everything Dana takes credit for was orchestrated by Lorenzo, even the Mayweather fight.
