The lumber market is an absolute clusterfuck right now for similar reasons.
The trade dispute with Canada is wreaking havoc on prices. Roughly half of the lumber used in the States comes from Canada. So now more lumber is staying in Canada or heading to Ch!na, and combined with the hurricane and the wildfire disasters, supply is very, very low.
I'm seeing prices that honestly look like misprints. If you are planning to build a house anytime soon, now is NOT the time.
