Dillon Danis’ long-awaited MMA debut is set, and the jiu-jitsu expert is off to one of the world’s best camps to prepare for it.

Danis, 24, will make his debut at Bellator 198 on April 28 at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., MMA Fighting has learned. Danis’ opponent hasn’t been finalized just yet, but he is expected to fight on the Paramount Network main card.

In addition, Danis will train for the fight at SBG Ireland, head coach John Kavanagh confirmed with MMA Fighting. Danis is scheduled to fly to Dublin early next week to begin the camp.

Danis, considered one of the world’s best jiu-jitsu practitioners, signed with Bellator last March. While he’s been a fixture on the BJJ scene for years, he rose to prominence in the MMA community when Conor McGregor brought him in as a training partner for his rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 202. Since then, McGregor and Danis forged a friendship and Danis became an unofficial member of SBG Ireland.

He’ll now head from his home in New York City to Dublin to prepare for his mixed martial arts debut.

If Conor is in his camp full-time it'll be a guaranteed victory

this is why despite all the "Bellator is failing" takes recently, Scott Coker hasn't lost a wink of sleep. With the #2 draw in combat sports (or perhaps #3, a hair behind the criminally underutilized Artem) cued up and ready to go, look for the competitive landscape in MMA to change dramatically in the next few months.

Without Conor in his corner, no one gives a shit about this guy. Even with Conor, no one knows his name.

It's not unreasonable to imagine that Danis will be headlining a Bellator PPV within 3 fights...

Bellator is struggling a bit right now but gotta give Coker credit, he is assembling a roster of young guns like he did at Strikeforce. Just going to take some time for these guys to develop and get their names into the mainstream.

The people that think SBG/Kavanagh are frauds are going to have a field day if he loses.

Dillon Danis is not considered one of the best in the world in Jiu Jitsu, stop trying to sell wolf tickets here. He's not even in the top 50 sport BJJ competitors, he's never won a world title in gi or no gi, nor has he even performed well in a major tournament. His biggest claim was when he submitted Joe Lauzon in a event (was that a Metamoris Challengers or Polaris event?).

The kid is a skilled competitor, but not anywhere close to "one of the world's best", the only reason that he's getting any push is because he's Team Lap Dog.

EDIT: I checked, he's not in the top 100 IBJJF competitors, nor in the top ADCC (No Gi) competitors.... Nor has he had a successful run in most events. Again, the kid HAS talent, but let's stop referring to him as "one of the world's best"

This kid has an unfortunate name that sounds like a combination of Dana and Anus.

Would we have another Conor meltdown if his bff loses?

@Rhino

Do you think you could kick his ass? I've got a great twitter idea.... :p
He would probably tap me in straight BJJ, I could admit that, however I wouldn't make it easy, I'll train/compete against anyone (except Rousimar Palhalres). Now if it was kickboxing, Muay Thai or MMA, I feel pretty confident that I could ping him up... I've been training in striking nearly as long as he's been alive, plus I have a 30 lb weight advantage on him.

Gunnar, but not sure how much of Gunnar's prowess comes from Kananaugh and not from what Gunnar had already.

Makwan is probably the coolest of the 3 and he is more fun loving and carefree than an attention whore like Danis who has that D bag look on his face every pic and talks like one to go with that. LOL
