no mention of Conor (-400) vs. Nate 1?
Solid example of why odds aren't always a reflection on the matchup as much as betting imo. Lot of people in the know had Nate going in to that one all day, but with the amount of people throwing money on Conor books would be insane to have him as anything other than the favorite.

probably weren't odds and he might have been the favorite if so, but Mezger had absolutely nothing for Tito before the terrible restart and guillotine in their first fight

Another random one I thought of which really surprised me was Miller’s kneebar over Olivera

Chonan Silva was the first I thought of. Anderson wasnt a GOAT contender yet, but the majority of my friends were sure he would ko Chonan. Most impressive was Chonan pulling off that Tekken move to get the finish.

How about Paul Harris losing to Belcher. Nothing to do with threads topic as far as sub but he was paying with hot fiya messing around in the mat. That was fun to watch.

Not quite huge names but when Kevin Burns submitted Roan Carneiro it shocked a lot of people. If I remember correctly Burns made his debut and had like 10 days notice because Ryo Chonan got injured. Burns was a banker and a part time fighter and submitted a jiu jitsu expert. I’m pretty sure Roans team were absolutely disgusted with him.

Martin Kampmann beating Drew McFedries by arm-triangle.

not a major upset, but if you had money on that fight ending in a submission, you made a shitload of money.

Not sure what the fight odds were, but I know that Jorge Gurgel (2nd degree Black Belt at the time) getting tapped by second degree blue belt Cole Miller, that was a huge WTF moment for many in the BJJ community.

Horn choking out Chuck with an arm triangle from the bottom. Not really an upset at the time, but you don't see that everyday.
