At the post-fight presser, Dustin Poirier said Alvarez stuck a finger in his ear, the ref warned him, and then he put it back and basically gave him a wet willie.

I think Alvarez had also grabbed the cage when defending the guillotine, and maybe another time too - I have to go back and watch.

Marc Goddard changed the course of the fight by taking position away from Eddie after the 12-6 elbow and standing the fighters up.

I see nothing wrong with what Goddard did, however I haven’t seen the fight yet.....

But 12-6 elbows are still apparently illegal so stand them up and give a warning or take a point away

I can truck you if you block the plate in all star game and will even do it in a slow pitch softball game if you wish
in baseball & even slow pitch softball, the catcher's role is one of both helper & hector, of naysayer & nexus, & around his circumference lies the full measure of the game

that should suffice in ridding him of the thread, nuraknu @nuraknu

I think Alvarez is a dirty fighter, but he's not so egregious that I wouldn't want to see him in the UFC again unless there's better fights for him elsewhere, so I voted other

I don't think he's intentionally dirty but he knows that generally refs will let you get away with just about everything without penalty so he's not afraid to get caught up in the moment.

It's finally bit him in the ass.

Can't try that shit with a ref that's actually engaged and not afraid to make a call.

Being a dirty fighter is intentionally eye poking, purposefully throwing illegal moves, pretending to touch gloves and then throwing a punch... things like that.

Doing stuff to survive like grabbing a fence doesn’t really make you a dirty fighter

I hope Eddie makes a shot ton of money in Bellator. His UFC career was brief, but probably over. Good for him though, he had the belt for a minute. The dude is a legend. Not signing the contract before his fight seemed pretty clear to me that he wanted to leave, regardless of that outcome.

Thank you for editing your title.

(It used to be “Italian” instead of “fighter”)

I think Eddie comes from a different era, and took a different route to the top. Some of that behavior is just instinct, but some of it is intentionally-developed instinct. Eddie plays on the margins of the rules inside the cage.

didn't see it mentioned, but Eddie's corner called for that exact 12-6 elbow technique, Eddie acknowledged the instruction and then did it.

Philadelphians aren't the most pleasant people in the world, but they're not massive douchebags either.

If Eddie were a New Yorker or New Jerseyan, then yeah, 100% intentional.

Was i the only one that saw Dustin knee Eddie right in the balls in the final flurry?
no Poirier got him right in the gooloo's, don't think it was intentional & I think the ref was switching positions & didn't see it, but he did get him low
