The progestin thickens the cervical mucus and thins out the uterine lining, creating a hostile environment where the sperm can't reach the egg.

Not that easy. They'd have to know the date of ovulation, which would imply the woman has a regular menstrual cycle (most women don't).

To be safe, it would probably mean not fucking for at least 10 days a month.

A woman's basal body temperature spikes as ovulation approaches regardless the regularity of their cycle. Thermometers go for about 40 bucks on Amazon and include an app for your smart phone that lets you know when you're in the danger zone. They even give you the percentage likelihood of conceiving.

The uterine lining is there to provide a place for the egg to implant. The author of that article is conflating 2 different components of birth control. Come to think of it, progestins or progesterone are supposed to cause the uterine lining to thicken rather than thin it. Progestins or progesterones are often given out to people trying to conceive through IVF.

So you're saying we should take your word for it and not the medical professor which that was a direct quote from?

I dont think you know what you are talking about.

The IUD's with hormones do not allow for conception yet are actually thought to help a pregnancy if it does manage to happen:
In fact, in this unlikely situation, the progestin in the IUD might actually help the pregnancy, since the body naturally releases the hormone after fertilization.

Copper IUD's without hormones also dont allow conception to happen as it creates a sterile environment which kills off sperm before they get anywhere near an egg for conception.

But I love that we're living in an age where a serious news anchor/journalist would not only use his program to laugh hysterically at a kid making funny faces at a politician... he would actually seek out said kid and do a 5-minute interview.

Not at all, but you might want to suss out the claims of a person who works in a very specific and politically/financially influenced field though. Particularly when they're being quoted by a notoriously biased news outlet.

Let's assume I have no idea what I'm talking about. Would you believe the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists?

The copper IUD also can be used for emergency contraception, although the FDA has not labeled it for this indication. The IUD is highly effective if placed within 5 days of sexual intercourse and in some studies was used as many as 10 days later (16–18). The levonorgestrel-containing IUDs are currently being investigated for use as emergency contraception.
